Going to be there the first of April for tournament. From Texas and have never seen it. Does one have significantly different cover than the other? What stage will largemouth/smallmouth probably be in?

Hopefully someone from North Bama or Mississippi will be along soon to answer your question. I have only been there once so I wouldnt be much help. If you dont find an answer before you leave send me a message and I will try to get you in touch with a buddy of mine up that way, he knows those TN River lakes well.

I have fished Both Many Many times over the last 20 years. Pickwick more than Wilson. Pickwick is my favorite night-time smallmouth lake. I would guess That Wilson would be more forgiving, & easier to fish, its at full pool. Pickwick has been pulled down for a couple years now for some reason, & the bite there is very much “Current Oriented”. Caught a 7Lb 9oz Small Mouth at Pickwick in 94. (3″ Smoke/Glitter Grub). Are you fishing as boater or non-boater???? Showdawg

The smallmouth will be in post-spawn, Largemouth should be in the thick of it. The cover is relatively the same, I would say Wilson is safer. Showdawg

Fishing as boater. This is an individual event. Is Pickwick just pulled down for winter or has it been down for another reason. How much below normal is it? Probably going for largemouth.

In the years past, Pickwick has normally been pulled down to “Winter Pool” , But last two years it seems that The water level has been close to winter pool, Year round. Had a terrible drought last year , could have been some of the problem, But Wilson maintained full pool most of the year. I guess you will be putting in at Mcfarland Park , If so you will have a 25 mile hike down to “Bigmouth” waters, BigBear is a great place for Large Mouth in Late March early April. Showdawg77

David, I live near Pickwick and have a guide service here. Showdog is correct about where the fish will be relative to the spawn. I dont think water levels will be any issue during the time frame you are talking about. I would fully expect them to be at full summer pool of 414 during this time. The better stringers as a whole have been coming off the lower end of the lake in the past couple of years. There is quiet a bit of hydrilla on the lake and the most of it is on the lower end. It isnt a bad run at all to Yellow, Indian, or Bear Creeks where in my opinion some of the best fishing will be taking place. I hope this helps. Todd Witt

Caught a real good small mouth yesterday. Was the first time I have had a chance to go in almost 3 months. Sure felt good to get my lil butt back on the water. Boat ran great and guess I caught about 18 fish. Not bad considering it took me a couple hours to get going and get my groove back. Caught them all on shake it jigs, jerkbaits and a couple on my new football jigs. Water temps where I was fishing was any where between 48 and 52. Anyway, should be a good trip for you the time of year you are going. Take Care and Good Luck JW
