Looks like a smallie, but its harder to tell without seeing the fish in profile. The jaw of a smallmouth bass will not extend behind the back of the fishs eye. So, when looking at a bass from the side, if you drew an imaginary line straight down from the back of the eye, the jaw would not go beyond that line. Ive caught smallmouths before that had the coloration of a largemouth, but that can be affected by habitat. The two species are named based on the physiology of the mouth. Either way, a 2.5 pound bass is a nice catch!Cheers,Scott
