I have one, and it will turn off if my battery voltage is low. It will shut off when you go to crank the motor or whenever something else turns on (ie: a livewell or bilge pump). If I notice this, its time to check the cranking battery. That usually corrects mine. You might also clean all the connections on your unit and the battery.
