I am having problems with my LMS 480. It keeps turning on and off by itself. Has anyone else had this problem? Can it be sent off for repair? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have one, and it will turn off if my battery voltage is low. It will shut off when you go to crank the motor or whenever something else turns on (ie: a livewell or bilge pump). If I notice this, its time to check the cranking battery. That usually corrects mine. You might also clean all the connections on your unit and the battery. If its further than this, sounds like a call to Lowrance may be in order.KentKent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax

Thanks guys. I checked all wiring and connections, they are good. I can swap it with the unit on the trolling motor and it does the samething (on for a few seconds, off for a few seconds). The trolling motor unit works fine in both spots. I just got a return email from Lowrance, and they say they will replace it with a rebuilt one for $350. Do you think this is worth it or should I look for something new? Im not sure what else I could get for that price and I dont have a lot of $$$ to spend.Thanks again.

If you can hold off untill springtime I may have a LMS 520c for sale.

I dont think Id give $350 for a rebuilt unit considering all the advances in technology out there now. I think you could get a much better color unit instead of the rebuilt black and white unit. I have had nothing but problems with the LMS 520 stay away from them. I am thinking of upgrading to the HDS 5. How have they been? Can I use all my existing hook ups? I currently have 2 LMS 520c networked….is adding the HDS 5 simply unplug the 520 and plug in the HDS 5?

Btgibson, if your cables have the blue ends on them then it will swap right out. The hds 5 is a great unit youll love it.

Installed at BCB factory…both bow and dash are lms 520c. I believe they are blue connectors. It has a black double t with resistors ( all black). Software is the newest version 2.5. My bow unit filled with water last season and Lowrance sent me a new one. Gps was not responding (periodically) so I updated the ant to the 4000 2 months ago, that solved that problem. Then I have noticed my bow unit screen is dim and not real bright. I can see it ok but I know it isnt as bright as the one in the dash is. I noticed I do get a voltage drop on the bow graph from time to time of about 1 volt but the dash stays constant battery voltage. I am thinking I have a wire connection with some corrosion maybe. Where does BCB tie in the power connections of the bow graph? Bow panel where trolling motor plug is? My cranking battery is a Sears Platinum die hard (the monster) with clean and tight connections so that is not the problem. Maybe my 520 screen is just getting ready to go bye bye Also my dash unit likes to go to default instead of the shallow water mode from time to time. So I have to go back in the menu and check shallow water mode and then I am all set…

Check the grounds on the terminal strip on the transom.
