Guys I need help. My locator is giving me problems. I started to notice this last year and got nowhere wth the foreign speaking lady at Lowrance who didnt understand my problem. My locator screen will lose the chip reading as I am moving across the water. It will go from a rough outline of the lake, to totally blue screen, and tell me its overzoomed. Being out only a few times with it this year,(hey Im in Wisconsin and its COLD), Im noticing it keeps beeping like the chip is being pulled in and out. Is it time for a new locator or can it simply be bad wires? Thanks for any help,Brandon

Lowrance is not really trying to do much work on older units. And while this is not an old units, it is by their standards. The best option here is to contact the CS desk and they should not be foreign. They are US based in Tulsa from our knowledge. They will be your only shot at a fix.

A shot in the Dark. Have you updated the soft ware for your unit? http://www.lowrance.com/en/Products/Mar … re-Update/ You might also want to try a Soft Reset. LCX 18C Reset , 1. Turn unit OFF, , || 2. Press and hold the PAGES key, , || 3. Press and hold the PWR key, , || 4. pull the chip turn upside down take a pencil with an eraser, rub the eraser accross the connectors, this will clean them, then reinstall the chip and remove in the unit several times to help clean them

The chip is a new 08 bought last year. I have also tried to reboot soft and hard. Maybe if new power cords dont work its time for a new HDS-5!
