Had my new Caracal out at Lake Fork last week. While there, I received several comments about the location of the LED bow light. With the trolling motor installed on the bow, the light is actually beneath the trolling motor bracket. It can be readily seen if the observer is on somewhat the same level as the bow of the boat but would be blocked if the observer was trying to observe from a higher elevation such as a larger boat.The comments I received doubted that placement would be fully compliant with the Coast Guard/law enforcement running light rules.Anyone with insight on this?C.

Just ask yourself this question would a 40 year old boat company know more about the laws and regulations that the USCG requires or the people at the local boat dock?? Im sure they have done their homework.

Yes we have and it is fine. One incident inquired as to whether it would be legal with the trolling motor deployed, to which we politely suggested that many would not be legal with the trolling motor deployed, including side marker lights in some cases. Of course most are anchored then requiring the anchor light as they are not underway, which makes them legal. We will say that the rub rail mounted lights some are using are not USCG approved and are not directionally legal. You can easily verify the USCG regulations on their boat builder web site and find that the bow light is within the degree of tolerance as mounted. BCB

Thx for the comments! Pretty sure BCB wouldnt have done it this way unless they had checked it out for compliance. Still — wanted to ask the question.C.
