Hello,I switched a few months back. I like the LEDS. It was an easy switch. They come with new rubber inserts & plug right in.Pitcher
I also switched a year ago when they first appeared pretty simple task and I think they are the way to go. Real bright in the early mornings.
I finally took the plunge and installed them on my 01 P-III trailer! Also installed LED yellow and red side marker lamps on the trailer. Bought them from easternmarine.com, as they sell the Optronics line of LED lights, which Ive read many good reports, lots of variety, sizes, warranty, technology, reliability, etc. LED technology has come a long way in a few short years, and as costs gradually subside, will likely be OEM on most automobiles in the next few years. I feel safer towing the boat with LEDs, brake light response time is quicker, LED illumination is brighter and more intense, and no more worries about burned out tailamps. The tailight installation is a no-brainer, while the side marker light swap can be a little trickier. Good luck whatever you decide!
I changed tail lights and side markers too. Really looks sharp. BCB stocks them. I also made a light bar by using the existing light bar and replacing the bulb type with leds from NAPA. Looks like a Christmas tree. Now if I could only get them to blink when some clown gets to close.Martin
You can get an LED light assembly in most trucks stops that is a nice one. We can also buy those like the Optronics brand and more. Though we opted for the Grand Generals we purchased for the Spyder Light concept. They really look cool when lit up, and the small LEDs were also a choice from there. There are many options and more every day on the LEDs. BCB
I just bought an 08 Puma with the LED lights in the trailer. About the third time taking it to the lake, someone stole the tail lights. I hate to blame anyone, but there was an older Pantera there that was in an awful big hurry to go when he saw me pulling up to the dock. What a low-life!
I riveted mine in. Very easy to do and more permanent. Last edited by SilvrTour on November 13th, 2007, 1:55 am, edited 2 times in total.
Anyone switched to LED lights over bulb style? Any problems?
You should see what Basscat has to offer for Blacklight LEDs for night fishing!! Give them a call.
Yep, those Bluewater kits are COOL. Mike is in Louisville like me and Ive talked to him in the posts on BBC. I have a White/Black/Red PIV and Im right on the verge of getting one of the Red deck kits. Id like to change out to LED in the compartments but cant justify the expense, I just put the money towards a new Hbird for the bow. Was the install pretty simple?
I have seen the black lights from BCB….cool! As for installation it was simple. For my compartments I ran one wire (2 conducter) from the back to the passenger side rod locker. If you remove the vent on the back of the boat you can see the chase and it is a straight shot. At that point you just feed the switch to power the light and then feed straight through to the next compartment (middle dry storage) then over to the other rod locker and terminate there. Rear is very easy because you are right next to battery compartment. For the floor lights I mounted a toggle switch in my dash fed from spare power that was already there from construction, into the rod locker. I drilled through (from inside out) a very small hole at floor level (the strip actually sits on the carpet trim piece and is glued on) that the wire would barely go through (cant even see the hole) fed that light and fed through inside the rod locker and followed the route of the original wire for the compartment lights (no new holes). to the other side and powered the floor light from there. For my trolling motor mounted strip I used a cigarette lighter plug and just plugged in.If this makes no sense I would be happy to explain on the phone.
