I see over on the BBC boards, that several past Cat owners are now running Legends. I was surprised to see them claiming BassCat lacks in their finishing qualities. I have not ridden in a Legend, but I did not see any evidence upon a close up inspection, that they did any better at fit and finish that BassCat does. Wasnt Legend formally challenger boats?
I dont know anything about Legends at all, I do know they build a nice boat. I think it probably boils down to what most people say. The boat they own at the time, is the best.
It goes both directions and we reclaimed several previous BCB owners who had tried Legend for ownership. One recent covert to L brand is a young man of 19 or so who had a used BCB with 225, and another in the K Lake area and was price shopping more than any other reason. We would and could not take it that low. Those we know of were offered and taken (took) promo deals direct in the guise of helping build the brand in those areas. None have had the newer BCB hulls to compare that we are aware of, which are 2009 and later 20 models. The interior finished boxes are what most prefer the appeal of. We loose storage space with the compartmentalized design of multiple storages to go finished interiors. Those in multiple box design would require space between those walls and thinner walls also. That space is now extra storage in a BCB. We cant say that there is not a finished design we could build, though we really like our method of construction for long term durability. On other notes, you in a BCB have the only all fiberglass transom, and all fiberglass hull we know of, and there is no Coremat in your hulls. And your BCB hull is the only one the company family or founders look at almost every day. Not slamming any construction process or ownership in those statements. Many of you are professional folks or business owners, how does your business function when your not there? Quite simply there are great people in most any company, though directive ownership and the management helps keep things in focus. Building boats is no different.Last edited by Bass Cat Boats on August 15th, 2011, 12:23 pm, edited 2 times in total.
Putting your hand under the lip of a rod locker and its super smooth, thats great…….if fades are cool in your neck of the woods Great, but they kind of Cover up the Not so Greats, 30yr old hull design thats been tweaked slightly, Hell Im putting a 225 Pro XS on a Ranger 492, I see where the hull came from……THese days Every Brand is good, however some are the Total Package, some have Smoke and Mirrors……some folks buy Merc some by Force…..ha ha ha…Your Signature …
I have driven an Alpha 199 at the classic, it had it pluses and its minuses just like every other boat out there. Zero bow lift, slow, and i have ridden in the older LEs as well that got you soppin wet. The only difference was when in rough stuff the spray made a wall of water that you couldnt see through. I didnt get wet, but it was a different ride than i was used to. I can tell you this as well I have had plenty of people that left BCB to run Legends and other brands that said it was one of the biggest mistakes they made, and will be back in a Cat as soon as their current boat sells. One thing you cant reproduce is Class, I have never heard BCB down another brand for the sake of selling a boat, or for any other reason. I have personally been told by Legend that BCB has a terrible hull design, and not by some rep or dealership either.
Well, If I am not mistaken, they are made right next door to the Cat factory. Their hull design is a bit old style, but I have been told it has a very good ride. With that said, everyone knows, when they are sitting in that back cut, and that familiar sound is heard, ” here comes a CAT”. They have the best ride, are the best built, and the best backed boat on the market. I had a 93 PII that Id put up against anybodys 2011 19 bass boat for ride quality, handling, speed, and for that matter, finish.
There is one guy in our club that traded in his Ranger for a Legend. He bought one of Bobby Lanes boat.(Isnt Bobby the Lane that has Legend). He said the Ranger was too rough a ride and his Legend is an awesome ride, but he said the gas mileadge is horrible. Guess its a pretty heavy boat. I looked at his boat pretty close. Its nice and has a wider front deck but dont see fit and finish any better than a BC for sure.
I do not get on here much but reading about this boat being better than that boat gets old and boring….. If you look at all the boats on the market you will find pros and cons to every single one of them. Everyone has an opinion and it does not matter what facts you put in front of them they will still argue about silly stuff. My boats wider, it is smoother, its faster, and on and on and on. There is one thing that nobody can argue about and that is the customer service you get when choosing a Bass Cat. I have been in a Cat for 3 years and every single time I have needed anything I call them up and never had to wait more than a week to get what I need ( try that with one of the other companys). I am not saying the “others” are worthless and the customer service sucks. I am saying I have had the privilege to get to know Pete, the parts man, pretty well and on several occasions I will tear something up and he has whatever it is at my door ASAP. This is something that is far more important to me than if the underside of my storage compartment is smooth or whatever the argument may be at the time. When you buy a Cat you really do become part of a “family”. So consider this next time the argument, debate or whatever it is thats going on at the time… Do I want to wait for a month or a week for the part that I tore up to come in. By the way if you can ever manage to get Pete in the boat he is a pretty good stick.Ryan Guthrie
Rode in one Legend ( 20 foot model not sure which one- but it was brand new in 2009). That was enough for me. The boats layout was awesome, no arguing that, the fit behind the console was tight ( i got to move us about 200 yards during a tournament and felt cramped -im 5-11 205). The fit and finish of the boat was very nice, the ride in 2 footers was not so much. I say this as an honest opinion, the guy i rode with was a very experienced angler and boat driver, and there was nothing he did that i would not have done in the same conditions. The boat was a very wet riding hull, and did not deflect spray away from the inside of the boat at all. This was not in the mysterious 3-4 footers it was an honest 2 foot windblown swell with a little bit of chop thrown in on top of it, and we were crusing at about 40 mph. Before we left the dock i was very impressed with the boat, and the layout seemed ideal for any tournament angler. Once we left the dock and drove about 15 miles i was ready for a stop. I was really hoping to have positive experience in the Legend because i think it is truly a well made boat, but i cant with limited experience ( in that boat) put that boat on my shortlist of boats to choose. At that time i would have put my P4 up against that boat on the same day and not thought twice about it, even more so with my new Puma, I cant even begine to explain the difference in ride between the two or three.I am still trying to figure out why people talk about the finished tackle storage areas?? I seriously dont even think about it when i open my boxes, if it concerned me that much i would just order my next BCB with carpet in the boxes (which is a perfect option at a low cost for those that want a “finished look”), Im more concerned with how my tackle fits in the spaces provided and the ease of access to that tackle.
I was watching a rerun of a Bassmasters Elite show a week or so ago. One of the big name pros (Greg Hackney???) was in a Legend on the trolling motor and trolled under an overhanging tree. A branch caught the dash and pulled it loose from the console!! Did anyone else catch that? So much for fit and finish!!
