Folks – I like the idea of using a better quality charger and not installing it on the boat. I know the BCB Lester bench charger has a marinco plug and makes life pretty simple. Issue? – Its bulky & heavy as hell as Ive been told. What about this model? Its not nearly as expensive – running about $330 for both the 24v & 36v. Secondly – its no bigger than an on-board and weighs in at about 12lbs. Unlike the manual timer model – this ones fully automatic with controlled charging profiles. Its rated for 150,000 hours of charging time which would be 12,500 charge cycles. That would take years to burn out…. BTW – also has an optional handle to make it easy to carry and adding a marinco for the trolling motor plug would be relatively simple.Anybody used one? Thoughts?

Are the Lester chargers waterproof?If not what do you do when its raining or when there is dew over night?

Its rated either IP66 or IP67. Its rated waterproof for heavy spray but not submersion. They make this as a portable or on-board, but its designed for either golf carts or motorized chairs. Itll take rain, but hard mount it and forget your plug – youre liable to be replacing it. The factory programming is for wet cell batteries, but can be ordered with custom profiles for AGM or Gel batteries.

I would think a charger of this caliber would just have a switch for agm or wet cell. Does this not kinda limit one to a paticular battery profile.I been holding out for a lester and know only to hear it has to be programmed at the factory for a paticular style of battery is kinda disappointing.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury

The specs say it has a communications port through which different charging profiles can be selected.
