License Plate Holder

I have read about this before on here but have not seen it in a while. On my way back from Choke Canyon this weekend a friend following me asked me to take a look at my license plate to be sure I dont lose it driving down the highway. Well, I crawled under my 06 P4 and took a look. Lucky I did, as the “plastic plate holder”, not license plate, was cracked at the top center area and I would guess it was ready to go. I easily tore it off and put the plate in my truck window for the rest of the ride home. I am going to mod it myself with a couple of key rings and the problem should never come back. Just wanted to remind yall to maybe take a look at yours, with several making the long trip to the OI soon. ps… my big pig for the weekend was 8.125 lbs…

Wear and tear and we wish we had a good aluminum or stainless option. We may have to work on that more. BCB

I have went through about four or five of the plastic lisence plate holders. They dont last long once installed. I eventually cut one out of some thick plastic and solved the problem. I almost lost my plate numerous times.Greg

Hey guys i bought a galvanized steel one at basspro last year. I got it in the store so i it might not be in the catalog. I cut my own for my last boat out of heavy sheet metal because i lost 2 of them and got tired of paying the state of California for a new one.basscat24

I lost two and now just keep the plate in the back compartment……funny thing is Ive never been stopped..I dont recommend my way cuz it will probably cost me eventually.Bob

Had the same problem with my last boat. Try using a couple of wire ties, not the ones for closing your bread, the ones you use to keep wires bundles together. This will let your plate swing free and not get bent anymore. Kinda like wearing boxers. Not my idea btw, read it somewhere.

Just had the same issue on my 06 Puma. I went to Lowes and purchased a 12″ Stainless Piano Hinge. I had to redrill the holes in the hinge so I could mount it in the same location with the plate light.

Been running piano hinge on my boat plates since my first boat in the 80s. Ive never lost a plate, or bent one up for that matter.
