Flow-rite valve not fully engaging and allowing water to flow into livewell, despite actuator being in EMPTY position.Mine has done this for a couple of years. It holds water just fine when actuator is in the AUTO position, and empties just fine when turned to the EMPTY position, but also allows water to seep in when sitting at rest on the lake.Sometimes adjustments can be made to the actuator cable where it attaches to the valve to help with seating the internal flappers shut.Flo-Wrong also sells a valve re-build kit for about $10.00, or you can buy a new vale for $35.00, or remove valve altogether, direct connect hose to transom/livewell, and use a plug.
Be sure ou are movin the albe over the detent stop that last 1/4″ and if it still leaks when running or trailering, then the cable has slipped in the jaw that retains it.

Youve probably already tried it, but Id back flush between the pump and live-well, disconnect the pump and check the impeller for debris. Given the pump “sounds” okay, Im betting its either debris in the line/impeller or maybe air….
First time filling the livewell this year, the flow of water seems quite a bit less than last fall when I put the boat away. Pump out works good and so does recirc…pump itself sounds like its working fine. Any ideas?
There are a variety of complications on the valve possible. There are many different valves and the person installing one might not have known this. The list is numerous if the valve was worked on. Check the cable stop in the bilge and beyond that we suggest someone who knows look at it.
My 2015 Cougar does not fill on the lake when set to Empty. On Auto on the lake it will partially fill up. When pulled out of water it will drain on Empty though. Maybe your system is different.
From what I understand, empty opens the valve and auto closes it. My last Puma would also fill on the lake when set to empty so Im kind of going off that. Either way, Ill listen to the advise of BCB. Im taking my boat in to have a hotfoot/blinker trim installed this week so Ill see if they have time to look at the valve. Another weird thing I noticed was when trying to back flush from the livewell to the transom, although water did not come out the back of the boat it did come out of the aerators at the top of the well as though it was on recirc or filling. Too confusing for this bass fisherman to figure out and Im liable to make it worst…for now I just pump the water out at the end of the day…hahaThanks for the responses.
It will fill on auto, it should not fill when put on empty. When you want water and fish in the livewell- place the switch to auto. No fish, no water- put the switch to empty! I have a 13 as well, and this should work for you. On Auto, it doesnt fill all the way, use the pump in or aerator to fill up to the overflow, then use the recirc or aerator and their timers to keep your fish happy. Northern Basser-it sounds like they put your valve back in backwardsLast edited by mike dominick on May 29th, 2017, 8:10 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Live well operationEMPTY – No water in / drain water outAUTO – water flow in up to outside water level – No water out – Use once you put fish in the live wellTrick I do – After I blast off I will rotate this switch to the center. This will allow water to flow in once I stop so I have water when I catch one at my first spot (cause that always happens..haa) If for some chance I dont have a keeper at my first spot, when I get back on pad the water will flow out and not slow me down. Remember once you do put a fish in the well rotate to AUTO.Aerator – Pumps fresh water in – will continue to pump water in and excess will go out overflow / When boat is running on pad water will be recirculated Recirculate – takes water from inside the live well and re-circulates it back into the well – Great for when you ice your water or add G-Juice and want to keep that water. Also good to use when in a marina with bad quality water. Keeps it out of your live well.Manual – Pump stays on5 – Pump will run for 1min and off for 5 min3 – Pump will run for 1 min and off for 3 minAlso check this video from Kevin Short on the description of the functions
Thanks guys…you have me second guessing myself. The well might actually be partially filling on the lake when set to auto. HAHAHA. I do set the valve to auto once I put fish in the well. Ive never given it any second thought until I noticed that the well wasnt draining properly. One thing I can guarantee is its barely draining (slight trickle) when on the trailer and set to empty…when I switch to auto, it stops draining altogether. Ill let the trained professionals handle it!!
