Live well question ???

Hey Guys, Yesterday while I was fishin a club tourney yesterday, I put a 5 pounder in the live well, switch my dial to auto & turn the”water in” switch on. In a few minutes I noticed my bilge pump kicked on & started spitting out water & the back carpet was wet from where my livewells overfilled. Question is, should the pump shut off when in auto ?

Earp, the dial has nothing to do with the pump. The dial sets the valve so water does not drain from the live well. The pump is filling the well faster than the overflow can handle thus your problem. When you turn the pump on (and many of us will turn on aeration at the same time), you have to remember to turn the pump off or you will overflow. Pump and dial serve two different functions.

Preciate it Chuck. In the past, Ive always turned it off, but forgot yesterday, and then brought up the question. Thanks again !
