I know Im wearing you guys out, sorry.New to me boat is wearing me out. Turned the livewell aerator on to see how it ran. Pumped water for 15 minutes or more and had about 3″ of water in the livewell. I let it go for about 10 minutes while I was testing out the trolling motor and when I turned around I had water coming out the floor drain. I believe the words “OH Sh!T!” was what came out of my mouth. I hope it is a fitting. Any ideas??PS Bulge pump works great!Other questions to come in other threads.. One about Prop and jackplate height Thanks so much for all the help
The live well has a shut off valve (ball valve) on the back of the live well for flushing. We bet yours is open and you are pumping water in the bilge area. Jack plate height is best determined by steering wheel torque on top end. Raise it till you get just a smudge of torque and your good, also be sure your rig is loaded when setting it up.
It sound to me like your flush out valve may be open. Open up the battery compartment and look at the top of the front bulkhead and you should see a pvc ball valve and see if it is closed. It should just be a quarter turn, when closed the handle will be sideways.
Thanks guys,Looking in behind the gas tank I see 2 valves on 1/2″ pvc that come out of the drivers side livewell and are attached to nothing. I figure they are the ends of the 1/2″ pvc that go into the passenger side livewell to clean the pipes out.BUT, on the inside of the passenger side livewell there are 2 black plastic covers (screens) at the back bottom, one above the other. The water never gets over the top black thing. Like I said about 3″ total. If there is a valve for those exhaust pipes am I going to have to remove the gas tank to get to them? and how would they have been opened? I sure can not reach them. They have got to be below the pump I felt back behind the gas tank. I dont suppose BCB would have some sort of diagram as to the routing of the livewell system. Thanks again Clint
clintthe black things at the bottom are strainers designed to keep the larger junk out of your shut off valve. The two valves at the top are your flush valves they are used to allow the flow of water out the ends of your aereator piping, make sure these are closed and make sure your main drain valve is closed. teh main drain valve should be about ankle high on your right as you sit in the drivers seat.you can test things out at home if you want to by taking a garden hose and filling your livewell about half full then turn on your pumps one at a time and see where the water is coming from. if one of your pumps has cracked it could be pumping water into bilge instead of recirculating back into livewell. should be fairly easy to trouble shoot, and not bad to fix. keep us posted and we will try to help as much as arm chair quarterbacks can.Treat everyday like it might be the last
Take a step back and think this all through. You should be able to handle it all and figure out your issues.
I had that problem a few weeks back, it was easy for me to find the problem because it had been working fine the week before. One of my floats had gotten behind the aerator pipe and the 4lber atatched was strong enough to break the pipe off at the wall, most of the water was going in the sump. easy fix with some tubing and glue.
The 4 pounder was not strong enough to break the overflow. We think it was fatigued earlier by someone during maintenance or battery replacement and the float just wedged it out. Those overflows are pretty tough!
Livewells are fixed! The previous owner had in-fact opened both flush valves and put tubes from the ends of the pipes to the bottom bilge. Why I have no idea. Thanks to all.
it wasnt the overflow that broke, it was the tube with the holes that the aerator sprays out of.
