I hope this topic hasn’t been beat to death. I’m not having any luck finding an answer.

I have a 2016 Cougar FTD. I’m the second owner.

There is a livewell switch labeled Empty and Auto… duh! 🙂

When it is on Auto, it naturally fills up about halfway. If I manually pump more water in, it will not stay full. It drains back down to about that halfway point. Is this normal or is something broken?

Your valve is leaking and either has something hung up in it or needs to be replaced. It is located right in the middle of your sump or bilge area and has a cable attached to it. Auto is closed. Empty is open. As simple as that.

Thanks for the info. I figured something wasn’t right. I wish I had thought to check it out a couple weeks ago when I put new bilge pumps in and epoxied a new shoot-thru transducer. I hate having to pull out those Power pole pumps.

Usually it’s the clamp on the cable which needs tightened up.

Make sure when moving the live well switch from Auto-Empty or vice versa, you feel it move into a detent. You should feel a slight click into a detent both ways. If your not feeling a detent, the nut holding the cable on the switch has come loose and is allowing the cable shroud to slide instead of moving the cable.

The easiest to check was mentioned by Phil. Make sure the cable is secure on the valve in the bilge. I have experienced water leaking out of the well in the auto position on 2 of my BCB’s. Both times it was the cable shroud nut backing off at the switch.

The clamp, screw, and nut referred to are H, I, and J on this exploded diagram of your valve. As mentioned, if loose, the entire shroud will move as opposed to just the cable itself.
