Are the loc-r-bars any good? Is there anything better out their to supplement an alarm? Thanks.
Some have stated seeing them removed using the trailer winch. BCBs has stated that they have seen loc-r-bars easily removed without using a trailer winch. Most recommend taking your rods in so as not to worry. Also, theives may tear up your boat trying to remove the bar. I keep my boat on a lift on a dock 95% of the time and it does give me a sense of security. Maybe Ive been lucky but I havent had any problems…..yet…..knock on wood. I often dock at a local marina to get a bite of lunch, and I put my rods in the locker and put the loc-r-bar in place. Its all a matter of preference but I like mine. Another thing I should say is that I am using it on a Sabre. The bar does not have to be extended much at all to fit across the deck and therefore I feel it has a lot of strength and would be very difficult to get the bar to bend or come out. A wider decked boat might make a difference.Last edited by toledobasser on January 9th, 2011, 10:34 pm, edited 1 time in total.Jim EbarbMany, LA (Toledo Bend Lake)2004 Cougar/ 225 OptimaxHumminbird Helix 12 Chirp SI on BalzOut Mount at bowLowrance HDS 7 at bowHumminbird Helix 12 Mega SI on Ram Mount at ConsoleLowrance HDS 8 in dash at console
here we go again. The trailer winch thing has never been proven. It would be much easier cutting the lock then unwinding the winch and trying that which again DOES NOT WORK. Saying that the loc-r-bar is the best thing I have put on my boats and the first thing I put on my puma when I bought it. I am on the road a lot with tourneys and it is a big peace of mind while on the road and I stop for gas, food or pit stop and I have the bar on. They are more likely to hit the boat next to you that does not have the bar. Bottom line is if they want in they will get in but a bar keeps the honest thief honest. Now at night when at a hotel I take the 15 minutes and take my rods and tackle inside. As far as I am concerned that bar pays for itself. You need to get one!
I dont know if they can be pulled by a winch or not (though I suspect it is possible). But, I know they wont stop a thief with a battery operated sawzall! This happened in a guys driveway in a subdivision. I think that loud BassCat alarm would have woke somebody up! The snows coming so I guess Ill go out to the garage and wipe down my cat for the 20th time since she was parked for the season on Nov. 1st. I cant wait until March!! Have a good day.john
Wow! That sucks!!!
Yikes.
i agree, thats not a good pic. looks like fingerprint dusting by the po-lice?
I use a baby monitor when my boat is outside the shop. If you put the receiver in the boat under the cover you can hear everything that happens out at your boat. They are only about 30-40 bucks and can plug up with the charger. You could even get the camera ones for about 200.
yep, they can always get in that is why at night take your stuff in. A simple bolt cutter can cut the lock and be a lot quicker. Again, it keeps the honest thief honest. There was a fiberglass company that offered a reward for anyone who could prove the winch trick worked. This outfit tried to do it themselves and could not. I hate to see that boat damage above and i do not understand why they would do that instead of cutting the lock. This bar is nice while on the road but not a long term security fix.
