My boat was broken into last week. I just finished a list of stolen gear. Total is $8500. They took my custom BC life jackets my bass cat rod covers. All my rods reels lures everything even my nail clippers for cutting line. It looked like someone literally vscuum out my boat. I have never seen my lockers so clean. So I am thinking about a locker bar. Any thoughts. Thanks. Bill
Sorry to hear that news. I have a bar on mine. I lock the Perkos, put the bar on too. Is it 100% sure to stop a thief? I dont think so, because I have heard of how thieves can get past that, but I do think it helps to deter it. just like a car or home alarm.
Install an alarm on your boat. My Classic came with an alarm from the factory and I always set it when leaving my boat outside on a fishing trip. If nothing else when a thief opens the compartment and that alarm goes off they will be startled and will run off without grabbing much. Actually locking the compartments will not do much other than cause damage to your seals and fiberglass deck. If the compartment is locked theyll get in it anyway. I feel that if I have the compartments locked, the bar locked, my cover over rain or not, and the factory alarm set that a thief will most likely bypass it for others. From my professional and personal experience a thirf wants easy and fast targets….mine will not be easy! And its guarded by Smith and wesson 1911, Bushmaster, and Glock! LOL
My parents stayed at Rayburn Country on Lake Sam Rayburn for a Oilmans tournament years ago. Five boats in the parking lot got broken into and it didnt matter if the compartments were locked or not or if there was a cover on or not. Dad had his cover on and the compartments were locked but it had plastic latches and the theives simply forced the lids open. Apparently nobody had an alarm of any kind because nobody knew until they got up that morning to go fishing. That being said, I had a loc-r-bar on my Sabre and plan on installing one on my Cougar. I agree that it will deter some thieves and not others. I have seen some pics showing how they can still remove a loc-r-bar without any remorse for tearing up a guys boat. I am guilty of not doing it, but the best form of security is to take your rods out of the boat at the end of the day.Jim EbarbMany, LA (Toledo Bend Lake)2004 Cougar/ 225 OptimaxHumminbird Helix 12 Chirp SI on BalzOut Mount at bowLowrance HDS 7 at bowHumminbird Helix 12 Mega SI on Ram Mount at ConsoleLowrance HDS 8 in dash at console
Bill,I hate to hear that and hope they may catch the thieves. Was the boat at your home at the time of the break in?
Wow that sucks… I detest a thief…
tough deal, though a Locker Bar might deter a thief if they are not serious. If they are then they will get in.
I take everything out of the boat at night when staying at hotels. I know it is a pain in the butt but I would rather get up an extra 15 minutes the next morning instead of having all my stuff stolen. I have everything organized so I can empty the boat quickly at night. I feel like the loc bar says to the thieves “hey look I have stuff Im trying to protect”.
