Home › Forums › Bass Cat Boats › Looking for a couple of P III owners to discuss some minor details about the boat
I recently bought a P III. It is not in the best of shape and I am working on that.I have a few questions about things like the rubber pads and hold down strap associated with the partners rod storage.I am also interested in where/how you have mounted chargers. (The boat had none and I am working on that, too, but its a darned tight fit.)I have hung a 200 OptiMax on it and would like to hear about your setup for comparison. Also, I am repairing rod locker lighting (sockets, bulbs, mercury switches). The lights that work come on when the lids are open; a good thing, but what to do if I am leaving everything open for the boat to dry out after a wet day. Does each light circuit need to be manually disconnected? The boat has a 74# MinnKota TM. Is that enough for big river fishing? The Potomac will be a frequent site as well as the Chickahominy and James Rivers.Hope to hear from a few owners and maintain contact as I get this boat ready for the water. Thanks.Michael
74 lbs should be fine until its life cycle is over.(45lb. Used to be max.) 25p Fury runs good on that set-up. Box lighting should cycle off on its own, no do not disconnect each light. Most oe parts are still available through BCB. if not seen on the website just give their parts department a call.
Thanks for the information about the TM and the lighting. Good to know. I had purchased a 25p Fury on previous information found here and am interested in motor height adjustments beyond the generic. Are you a P III owner?I still have some questions about a few things and would like to PM if you do not mind.
I still have a really nice P-111 if ya need any help
I have a nice P3 also if you are interested in any information, 200 opti, motorguide troller, and humminbird graphs.
Here are the passenger rod straps that are on my PIII. http://www.basscatstore.com/bungeerodstrap.aspxIf you still have the digital dash, your lights should cycle a few times (probably for about a half hour) and then shut off when the doors are left open. I do this all the time.if you want to put a pad set in the passenger rod area I would probably use the Cougar set. http://www.basscatstore.com/bungeerodstrap-1.aspxI have a three bank charger mounted to the aluminum transom stiffener, I removed the center one and drilled and tapped it for the hole pattern on my charger, and then put it back in the boat. IM me and I will try to answer anything I can.
The boat was built with factory parts and some parts and rhose same parts should fit just fine. Some of the items you are asking about were not stock items at that time and some modifications or improvising might be necessary.
Thanks very much for the information. I will PM specific questions. Michael
Saw my first PIII late this past fall, owner from Mass or NH. Forgot which. A very sharp boat and nice set up. He loves his (think he said it was a 2003 but could be wrong) and fishes a lot of tournaments.
I have a PIII and i updated a lot of things. the stock charger i had was fine but i wanted to update it to the newer 3 bank noco genius 2, it installed in the stock location inside and against the transom. like others have stated if you have the superdash the lights will cycle then turn off but i installed the converison kit w/ A10 touchpad. i swapped out the velcro rod straps to the bungees, as for the prop i heard the 25 fury is good but im a big guy 64″ 300lbs so i put a 24 fury and it jumps on plane!good luck and hit me up if you have any questions.
I personally wouldnt replace an onboard, and would go Lester charger instead. I know where a good deal on a used one is,,,,,
Thanks for all the responses. I, too, have bought a Noco Genius 3. As this boat has never had a charger, I do not know where the original would have been located, socalpIII. Any chance of you posting a pic or two? Thanks, again.Michael
by the time i get home tongiht it will be too dark so I will take it in the morning and post it but basically inside the boat against the transom just above the step.
I also have a 2002 P3. Mine has 200 Opti, Lowrance HDS8 & HDS5, LSS1, Minn Kota Fortrex 80, and dual powerpoles. My engine setup is 24P Razor set to 3.25 inches below pad. Adding new style seats and new carpet next!
Passenger rod strap bungee placement. Think this is the factory set up. Onboard charger location and mount. Charger is directly behind driverside livewell, mounted on a board and then the board is mounted on the threaded posts for the battery trays. Set up like this when I got the boat used, so not sure if it factory or from one of the previous owners.
