Looking for advice: Installing a Comfortroll trolling motor tray in a 1994 Pantera 2

Hi folks -Im about to install a Comfortroll trolling motor tray in my 1994 Pantera 2. My understanding is that once Ive cut away the deck – I will end up cutting into foam. I have been told that – after installing the tray drain – I should fiberglass the foam back in. The problem is… I have no idea how to fiberglass the foam back in. Ive checked other threads… and they really dont explain how to seal the foam back in with fiberglass. Ive been told to put plywood in first and then fiberglass over it. The truth is I have no idea how to do this. Ive done a little research on how to fiberglass… but dont understand how to seal the edges… fiberglass around the drain hose, etc. Can anyone out there explain this to me? Is this a complicated process? Is fiberglassing the foam in the best way to do this? I would really appreciate if you could give me some advice… and step by step instructions with lots of detail. There is only a small drain if any on the P2 model in this year. We do not think a drain exists to relieve the water in this model. Fiberglass work can be done with a small kit from many stores and the kit should be age dated to insure the resins are within shelf life. Cutting the glass and sealing the cut out can be done with anything covering the hole you create and the foam area must be sealed or become a sponge with water filled and slowing your boat down, also aging it.

A long overdue THANK YOU to Dave (Bassdeer)! Its pretty awesome that someone I never met before took the time to share his experience. We talked on the phone several times and he took the time to explain the process of installing a recessed foot peddle – including how cut into the deck, fiberglass the foam area, and how to tap into the keel pipe with the drainage hose. Overall, the process was challenging… but very rewarding. The finished product does look good. I have a pan that a buddy of mine made me, that has been setting around collecting dust, because Ive been too scared to cut a hole in a perfectly good deck. But looking at the forward wood piece and all the foam exposed, a thousand questions comes to mind. But Ill hold off till I get up the nerve to start cutting. Just finished moving everything around in the battery compartment to make room for a group 31 cranking battery. Next is converting the digital dash to analog gauges. But, I wont be happy till this is pedal is in the floor like yours. Looks good!!!
