It looks like it mite be 2014 before we can get back into a Bass Cat again, so looking for ideas for a smoker for around rhe houe to do Ribs, Brisket and some Pork shoulder. does Master build have a good smoker , whats your thoughts. Dont need one like Bama 96 has. Thanks in AdvanceJoe
I would get a Big Green Egg or a Traeger Pellet Smoker.
Look into a Backwoods smoker. Lots of different sizes, and has contributed to the Memphis In May World Championship grand champs a few years in the running. I own one and its a breeze to learn and cook on.
I have a cooks shack smoker.. http://Www.cookshack.comIts an electric smoker, some folks frown on that.I like it.The site has really good recipes and how to information.Last edited by LedzepP4 on January 12th, 2013, 10:16 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Depends on what you want. Ease of use I would go with the Traeger Pellet Smoker. We competition cooked on these for years and had great results. If you want a stick burner pit then the Lang Smokers are great for the money. My Pit I have now is a Jambo Pit and made for competition cooking. They are pricy and if you are looking to just cook for friends and family I would go with one of the ones linked below. We have three of the Traeger Texas Grills with the digital thermometer. Great cooking tool.http://www.traegergrills.com/shop/grills#http://langbbqsmokers.comLast edited by Bama96 on January 12th, 2013, 10:27 pm, edited 2 times in total.
To bad couldnt do now, CR still has the Marguay and has some really good discounts going plus 5-6 year extended guarantee.
You can bury at ton of money in a smoker – but folks have complimented my Q for years and I use a Red R2D2 Brinkman electric smoker. Fill the bottom with lava rock to even out the temps and its awesome. The secret of good Q is the wood. Split out some great seasoned hickory and youre there. Add a little apple juice and cider vinegar to the water in the reservoir and youre there. Get yourself a remote thermometer and never open till the temp reads 190. Perfect pulled pork shoulder every time. I check on it about every two hours to top off the water and add another stick of hickory. From start to feast – about 12 hrs. Less than $100 at Lowes. Clean it when youre done and itll last forever. Last edited by jstew on January 13th, 2013, 1:33 am, edited 1 time in total.
We highly recommend the Big Green Egg. You can smoke, grill, bake, whatever you like. We use ours on an average of 4 nights a week. It is an investment, but there is no reason its not the last outdoor cooker you ever purchase.
The Traeger Grills works well for me. Have used it more in the 1 1/2 yrs. that I have had it then all other grills combined I have ever had. Mine is the small one and I did add the digital thermometer as makes a world of difference in ease of use. Does a great job with ribs, chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, even tri tips. Pellets pretty reasonable couple times a year at Costco too.
HASTY BAKE it’s all my family had or ever used for everything that needed grilled or smoked.http://www.hastybake.com/video-categori … red-videoshttp://vimeo.com/37602528
boy do I have a lot of options. lookins at traeger big green egg and lang so far, thanks the Bass Cat family is the greatest.
Remember with the Traeger all you do is flip a switch and you are smoking in 10 minutes. No fire building and no charcoal starting. They are by far the most forgiving Smokers out there and you can also grill burgers, steaks, fish, pizzas, on them.
If youre on a budget, get a Brinkmann Gourmet electric. Used one for years without issue. Good little smoker, but somewhat limited capacity. If you have the coin buy a XL Green Egg and it will be the last smoker youll ever need. Uses lump charcoal in small quantities (4 or 5 chunks max) and maintains temp for 7 or more hrs. on it. Can even close off the smoker, let it go out, and re-use it. Beats the hell out of trying to clean the $1000 off set wood burner I gave to my son. At the 900 to 1100 dollar price point theyre hard to beat.
For over 40 years this has been my go to smoker. I have two of them as one is not enough to feed the crowd at family reunions. Nothing beats a brisket on the bottom rack with a pile of ribs on the top rack bastin that brisket, yum, yum. http://oldsmokey.com/Products/OSES/olds … moker.html
