2015 with 200 Pro XS, boat is two months old. My two previous Cats, both 20 footers, would not lose 2d signal until close to 60 mph. My new P2 loses signal at 40 mph. I thought it was just peculiar to this new hull packing the air, and I would have to live with it, but I just read a post where a 2014 P2 and Pro XS does not lose signal until 55-60 mph. After reading this yesterday, I thought I need to figure this out. This Cat that I read about had a 25 Fury, whereas mine has a 25 Tempest Plus and is pretty well dialed in. The two Cats I had before both had 26 Furys. Now I know that my jackplate is set up higher with this Tempest prop. Could this set up be a factor, and, if so, could putting on a Fury and lowering the plate give me signal at a higher speed? I would like to see signal until at least 50 mph. Any thoughts or suggestions?
The propeller is behind the boat. Trim your rig down tight or flat, and see where the speed makes signal diminish. The number is a variable and there are lots of factors effecting signal. Mount, transducer, your particular load and trim angles. One step at a time as with anything on any boat, till we figure out what you have.
Ok, will do next time out. Will use little trim, lots of gas, and pay attention to the speed and signal. This is one of those times I wished I lived on the water so I could figure it out quickly.
So, with the boat fairly flat, signal is good until 56 mph, just a touch of trim, but still plowing. If I want to cruise at what seems to be the right amount of trim and the boat at a nice angle, I lose signal at round 40 mph as I first said. 5/8 tank of gas, me alone, and my tackle (not a crazy amount). Kind of puzzling to me since I had good signal at higher speeds with my 20 foot Cats.
We are surprised as most BCB models loose signal above 60 MPH, so well take 56 as close enough. We simply use a bunch of air and air is what drives the signal on the transducer ping back. Since it hits air, it pings back.
Yes, I am kind of surprised as well. I will play with it some more and see if I can find a sweet spot for trim so that I can still have signal for at least 50 mph and not be plowing. I dont know if it means anything, but I find with this prop and set up that I have to give this hull what I consider to be a lot of trim to hit top speed (71 mph so far), with more trim than I had to give any of my other Cats, and barely a rooster tail. I could run my 20s to 80 mph with much less trim. Perhaps I just need more familiarity with this hull and set up.
No, its shorter so your loosing signal at lower speeds as lift maximizes at lower speeds with less power and length. 18 boats lifted are lifted more at 60 than a 20 boat plowing at 60. 19 at 65 and 20 at 70 and etc.
Ok, I understand and that makes sense. Shorter boat with less power takes more lift to attain same speed as longer, higher powered boat. So, in other words, losing signal at lower speeds in this 19 versus the 20 is normal, but probably not as low as 40 mph like I am experiencing. Like I said, maybe just more seat time and experimentation for me. I will bump the trim more slowly and see what I can figure out. BTW, this rig has incredible holeshot. BCB, thanks for the help.
If its any concellation to you.mY 2013 p2 does the same.actually about 45. Which I run the 25 fury. Great holes also. Just loose my readings. Guess I learned to live with it.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
Thanks Redngoo. I was starting to question my driving skills.
