Lossing speed

my 2010 puma ftd is lost its top end. 250 merc. chiped my prop sent it out got it back looks new. 4-31 series batterys 50-75 lbs. gear 2o gallons fuel 72 mph by my self. full tx. load 2 guys 70-71mph. Is this 26 fury trashed? All i read is every puma out there runs 77-78 full tx load. PLEASE help me guys? THANKS.

i assume it ran faster before you chipped the prop? rpms are what at WOT? Need more info to assess.

well,lets see here,it ran the way it was suppose to before the prop was damaged and sent out for repair. Now that you have gotten the prop back it doesnt perform the way it did before the damage took place,and it was “repaired”. Easiest thing to do is barrow a prop and or purchase another,for a spare. If you gain it all back…BAM……………there is your answer.

PA and z8pp3r have assessed this well in that your performance on both ends are our questions. We often have a difficult time returning a tweaked propeller to original condition. It all depends on who did the work?

thanks guys, here are my specs, 5900-6000 rpms every once in a while the alarm will sound at top end when bouncing, so its cranked up. brand new boat ran 76-78 with just me, 74 full tx. load. Now it runs 70 full tx load, Ive added one more 31 series battery and carry about 75lbs. tackle and gear, 4-31 series batterys total. Im running 72 by my self, 69-70 full tx load. What about all the post on pumas running 78-80, is this were I should be with my rig, do I need a hydraulic jack plate and new prop? The last puma owner who told me his boat was running 80, would not let me drive her or take me for a pass.Just want the truth ,and Im fine with that, Im not a speed freak and love my puma, I need my fact sheet to be right will be selling her in the spring for a demo eyra in 2013.

Where do you live?That aint even close to right.Its a power issue. Either not making it or losing it.Would borrow a buddies prop and run it real quick. Still runs like that the motor needs a looksie.C.O.D. Jr. III

Thank you ward, I was hoping you would answer, always like your posts, my buddy has a new 26 fury, Im going to empty the boat and see whats up friday, Ill let everyone know the specs. Thanks! Do all the pumas run 78-80 on a full tx. load?

Most are capable of running 78-80. Ive never had one that wouldnt. My current Puma FTD, a 2013, will run 78-79 with two people, two power poles, water in the livewells, and more tackle than yours. It will run 80-81 with me in it alone. The issue that you have is likely prop related since you ran OK before you damaged it and now it is 4-6 mph slower. You have a tremendous amount of prop slip for the speed youre running. As much as 15%-17%. A number which should be around 8-10%. First you should lower the engine on the jack plate. If your speed gets worse, then you should invest in a new prop or a new prop guy. I doubt its an engine issue unless you have a bent prop shaft. Good luck.
