Low E-Tec rpm

One of my best friends is not getting satisfaction with local Ranger dealer that sold him a new E-Tec so I am trying to help him. Two year old 150HO 2003 18-5ft Ranger, 6″ jack plate 5,100 RPM MAX today on the river (Kevins spots are now a local shrine) with a 21p 4 blade cyclone. He has spent a lot of time over the last three months on set up. He has spent hours on the phone and has talked (past tense) directly to Ranger. Motor height, different props, raker, etc. He had some custom prop work done at Steves Custom (BTW Steve does great work and did some work for me – Thanks to recommendations from this board). Any BRP guys see this before? Charge coil?? Tim

The best I can do would be trade in on a Cat with a Merc.

Sorry to hear that your friend is having trouble with his rig. You may want to ask the guys over at the BBC Evinrude forum. They are great guys and have helped me a lot with my Evinrude. Its a 185 and the jack plate is now off. Ranger said a month or so ago to take it off. Best speed when the boat was empty was 59gps @ 5200 rpm 22 Raker. With a normal load it is 48gps up river and 55 down river. Max speed seems to be 55 mph 5100rpm This motor should spin over >5700 Its driving him nuts cause my 150EFI PII can hit 60 no problem 23p @ 5400rpm (prop is 23, not 22) This motor is a pooch compared to the HO. Friend Terry Kaiser the star flash skirt maker has a big cat with a 250 Merc. nearly 60 in that boat is as good as he can expect. There was a BWB test of that boat and motor combination a while back and they could not even approach 60. That thing isnt an AME-resin with kevlar/carbon-fiber hull. Its hefty.2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200

The best possible speeds are similar to what OT57 listed. There was an article in Boating Life that ran a 150 HO on a 180 series hull last year, and it maxxed loaded at 48 MPH. There are those above 50 easily, though not many above 60. His speeds sound low, though on the low side of the range we have seen for that hull and boat. We dont think he can get much above 56 to 58 empty for most. And we think it is load critical on that hull. BCB
