I replaced my cranking battery with an Optima over 1100 MCA and 900 CCA. The first time I used my boat after I replaced the battery I forgot to put the plug in and realize before I left the ramp however a substantial amount of water filled the back compartment and possibly close to top of battery. Later that day while idling out of a cove I trimmed the motor down and the low voltage alarm sounded. The next outing it did it again so I started watch the volt reading. The volts are around 11.2-11.6 and if I get about 2,000 rmp the alarm sounds. I shut down and restart.. This may happen 2-3 times. Then all of a suddenly the volts read 12.0-12.4 and I can get on plane and drive. The volts the read 14.5-15. If I shut down and fish this scenario will repeat. Any ideas on my troubles.
The water may have covered your terminal strip on the transom. If so then maybe corrosion could be a problem with the connections or the wire crimps. I would start there and make sure all of that is good. I would also check your inline fuse near the battery for good connection and corrosion. If it went under water you might want to replace it as water could have gotten on the inside and damaged it.How old is your boat? Everyone should believe in something. I believe Ill just go fishing!
That terminal strip has definitly caused a many of HEADACHES. corrosion and bad connections sometimes does THE OUT OF ORDINARY. Ask me how I know. Not neccessarly the problem ur having but these 2 items has caused me many problems in the past. Where you can use it die electric grease works well.Last edited by Redngoo on July 23rd, 2016, 1:48 am, edited 1 time in total.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury

It is good practice to remove your power wire on the cranking battery for your maintenance on the terminal strip. Redngoo had a good suggestion with the dielectric grease on the terminals too. All of that might make your problem go away.Everyone should believe in something. I believe Ill just go fishing!
You might check the alternator. I was having the same issues and it turned out to be alternator (2006 Pro XS)
I was going to suggest checking the alternator too as I had the very same issue with the alarms and low voltage. Turns out my alternator is bad and needs replacing. John (aka JonesTrollingMotorServices) was able to help me find a aftermarket one for a lot less.Last edited by aluislugo on August 1st, 2016, 3:32 pm, edited 1 time in total.
They posted this on a competitive board today. #5 Today, 08:52 AM Please excuse us for posting here, though we want to help. We have suggested 31 AGM cranking batteries for over a decade when it was not popular. The CCA is not all a battery we need for cranking, we need depth to keep those LCR units running. We drain them during the day. We were the first to suggest the Sears Platinum Die Hard 31 AGM, which is no longer available. It was a good battery and easy for all to obtain because of access to Sears stores. We never suggest the Optima batteries as a cranking battery. They are a spiral cell AGM battery and weigh less. Lead style Batteries are simple, get the heaviest quality battery you can, get it in AGM on high use areas, get it in a major build brand if you can. NorthStar are the best out there today, Full River and others fall somewhere in between. Yes, we think you have a battery issue. And for those trying to save weight on an AGM battery, please just get the heaviest and you will be much mere satisfied years down the road. You can go wet cell on trolling motor batteries and they work just fine there. Dont scrimp on the cranking as it gets used the most for what we do today and has ever since the late 1990s. BCB
cade1, check your messages
We dont think it covered the terminal block as it is mounted somewhat higher, it also is not an immediate issue and more time related. This sounds like a terminal loose on a battery.
