How much does a merc lower unit for a 200 optimax cost? I need to purchase one for my p4. Also, does anyone know if you can use a high performance lower unit instead of the regular one it comes with? How much?

The new Mercury gearcase will run into the $5k range and you can use a TorQueMaster gearcase. The SportMaster would not be suggested, though will run.

Sorry to hear about your Lower Unit Replacement, hopefully your insurance is paying for it? BCB means that on your boat you would actually lose performance out of the Sportmaster because its designed for hulls that run in excess of 85mph, at slower speeds the sportys design has more in the water and slows you down, maybe you can get lucky and find a new used unit on Screamandfly.com for less, if your paying out of pocket….scream and fly is by far the largest High Performance Boating Forum and has a great buy it area…..do not get one of those one off brands, ive heard some horror stories…..Just trying to help Bud, BrannonYour Signature …

I dont know age of outboard you need lower unit for, but a friend of mine recently purchased and installed one of these units on his EFI and is happy with it so far. Has extended breakin procedure but is warranted for 3 years. The Ebay sale is over but you can contact them directly form there add. He got his in about five days. His total cost was $840.00. Brandon is correct. Buyer-beware on the low cost units that are out there. The castings are not as good. A marine mechanic buddy of mine from J&J Marine put a Mercury knock off on at a customers request – Against his own objections. To make a long story short, the unit would not hold pressure. Seals were replaced more than once. The unit had blow holes in the casting. The paint covered the micro-hole. Did you grenade the casing? I assume you are referring to the gearcase. Tim

Does anyone know if they are different gear rations on the Torquemaster lower unit?
