I posted a note last week about my problems with my Lowrance 520c that started with it cutting off after four or five minutes and finally getting to the point that it would only come on to the cover page with the the 520 logo and stay there. I could not turn it off, but it would go off in a minute or two on its own. I had emailed Linda Colt at Lowrance to get something done and I am still waiting for her to get back to me. In the meantime, I attempted to remove the unit from the instrument panel and finally got it out yesterday. I then put in on top of a dehumidifier that I have in my shop and left it over night. I turned the dehumidifier all the way up. Today, I plugged it back in and checked it out and it worked 100%. So this wierd trouble was caused by moisture. To double check the result, about 4 PM we went fishing on a near by lake and it worked just like new (6 bass to 3.1 lbs). Of course, all I can do is hope this is a permanant fix. I re-installed the unit with a good coat of silicon around the cut out and over the side mount screws in hopes of keeping it dry. So, if you experience the same symptons, you might try drying your Lowrance GPS out over a dehumidifier. As typical of my repair attempts, I acidentally put a new trouble in. In fact more than one. I must have disconnected some wiring under the dash, as my Yamaha RPM/tilt/trim meter quit working, noticed on launch and coming back at dark, the lights quit working on the Speedometer-Gas Gage Yamaha meter. The light came on, on the meter not working. I see some un-plugged connections, and I think some were that way to start. I dont have a wiring diagram, so I may have to call BCB for help if I cant figure it out tomorrow. At least for the moment, I have fixed the 520c and I just removed my 3500c from my Contender and have it “drying out” on the dehumidifier for the night. It was going off by its self also. It might be the same problem, moisture. From here on out, I am going to be careful washing down my Bass Cat and I will be keeping the cover on the GPS unit when I am not fishing. The cover for the 510 on the bow blew off right after I got my new boat. I am thinking that the sonar only unit will not be as effected by moisture as the GPS unit is. I hope this information may help someone else if they have the same Lowrance problem. Skipjack
