Hey guys,Was wondering if anyone has put a 9 Ti in the Margay dash or perhaps if BCBs can weigh in on it.Mine is a 17 model and I read on here that the Helix 7 was the largest but have looked at the Elite template versus the H7 and theyre very close to the same cutout dimensions. I want to confirm before buying though. Thanks in advance.
It should fit up to a 10
One good thing is the Lawrence is physically smaller for the same screen size. I am using two elite 9s, and they are smaller than my older Hummingbird 998 which was an 8″ screen… Thinner as well.
Thanks BCB!OT 57, youre right. The L9 is only a couple inches larger than the H5 I have in the dash now since the Lowrance is just the cutout for the back of the unit not the whole perimeter like the bird.
When I was looking, I had thought that the Elite 7 might fit (my boat is an 08). But it looked to be very close. I elected to use an elite 5 in the dash. It is a little wider than the Humminbird 787c that apparently came with the boat, and it is also a little shorter. But the screen is significantly bigger without all those bubble switched buttons on the side. Touch screen has its advantages. I am getting used to them and am becoming a bigger fan every day. The Navionics map is not as good as lake master, but it is not bad. Humminbird did high-def scans of every lake I have tried it on, and that is shore-to-shore. Navionics seems to be decent resolution, but leaves off the shoreline/pockets/creeks pretty much completely.

helix 10″ wouldnt fit flush in my 2016 margay dash. The edges of the helix would have run off the flat area designed for the dash mount and I would have had to try to mount into unlevel dash surfaces. I ended up using a mounting bracket. This is a better option anyways as I was able to have the helix a couple inches higher. Even if you got it to fit in the dash the next problem for me was the steering wheel would cover up the bottom portion of the screen with a flush mount…Jared
Jared,Would you mind posting a picture of your dash? Id like to see the mounting bracket youre referring to.Looking again, I have doubts about the Lowrance 9 and will have to pull out my H5 to verify. Also need to look for interference with anything behind the cut out area, not just the room on the front. The Margay dash is pretty jam packed looking from underneath.

Im glad you commented on the difference in map quality with the Navionics, definitely something to consider but agree the touchscreen is the way to go. Ive been using HBs for a long time and kinda fed up with them of late.
Humminbird could take a lesson or two from Lawrence in terms of engineering. IE the touch screen. Very simple menus that dont have things all jumbled together and hard to find. But the maps. Navionics is a poor second to LakeMaster. Unfortunately I now have three Lowrance units so LakeMaster is out of the picture. Other than that, I have been completely happy with everything. Taken a little time to learn the ins and outs. But thats true of most any “new thing”
