My boat is under warranty still, but I figured I could fix this myself and save a trip to the dealer who didnt even get my trailer or courtesy lights fixed last time. I however cant seem to get to any of the connections to make sure they are clean dry and have dielectric grease on them. (it rained in my boat all night before I got this message about 30 after I started using the boat the next day ) Anybody have a clue how I can get to them for the dash unit on my 08 cougar ftd? I also figured this would be a good time to link my 2 lcx 28hds and yes I know I have to disconnect one of the powers feeds for the nmea 2000 bus before I connect the 2. Has anybody else networked theirs and still kept using two 3000 gps modules, and if so how do you chose which one each unit is using for position?Last edited by RoddyRude on April 24th, 2009, 1:12 am, edited 1 time in total.
We will eave this one to the electronics geeks. Deke where are you! Oh Well, the year model is the question, and it seems there may be a few bad receivers out there. If yours is showing a fault, we suspect it is a bad receiver. As for the connections, they are not lubricated new and you can find the connections and lube them if you prefer. The only one on the unit is the main trunk line.Last edited by Bass Cat Boats on April 22nd, 2009, 4:56 am, edited 1 time in total.
if you use 2 different gps lgc3000s or lgc2000s they will not be networked hence two nmea power connections and switches I COULD BE WRONG sounds possible at some point if system will allow., but with only 1 nm ea power ing the network, but ive never trird this cant afford all them parts to experiment with but may work design seems possible and have slightly different gps readings at each unit,, now if you want to network these 2 you will only use one lgc3000/2000 either or[ thats how mine are, and no problems] i dont see the need or capibilty of two antenns on 1 network never heard of a gps modgule switch box as with trtansducers,[ maybe they could be inependent of one another but still use one power supply and network through t connectors] after all the furthtrest apart the antennas could be is 19-20 ft. max . as far as the grease it needs to be on all connections , t connector. terminators , extension cables, head unit everything and dont be afraid to use it. now ive seen modgules expire before there time usually from leaving them on while head unit is not connected, i always carry a spare lgc2000 and lgc3000 as back ups when travel , grease and a #2 robertson screwdriver for a sure fix. but if it has onyl happened after rain recently its usuall the results from water in connectionc. a quick fix and test ,other than volt test at end of simple network, checks to see if modgule is getting power, is to take antenna connections , head unit connection ts terminators ect. apart let sit in sun to throughly dry, re grease an then assemble.. 1 more thing that could be causing these problems that many are having is a bad switch , poor nmea power, more likly ground nmea power connections with those tiny wires. u can use those super tiny butt connectors will work if crimped propally, and fracture those tiny wires due to vibration over time, but a tiny amount of soider is more dependable and approiate. hope this helps sorry so longLast edited by smbass on April 22nd, 2009, 5:06 am, edited 1 time in total.
I already have the 2 gps modules, I am just wanting to share way-points.Im pretty sure the boat has no nmea trunk line now. The problem Im having in starting my trouble shooting process right now is the is I cant seem to reach any of the connection points. P.S. Ive already started soldiering connections threwout the boat. Ive had several bad connections.Last edited by RoddyRude on April 22nd, 2009, 1:27 pm, edited 2 times in total.
smbass wrote: check with lowrance on tha app. it may be possible to network if so only power 1 bus I knew that part. Now if I can just get to some of the conections, Ill fix this thing . I was going to swap my 2 Gps modules yesterday, and I cant get to the conection to remove the rear one.
Swaped the 2 modules and the problem followed the module. (I had to pull the vent in the rear of the boat to reach the rear conector ) At leaast I know what the problem is now, but I am sure surprised. I guess Ill be calling Bass Cat Tomorrow.
