Lowrance HDS 8s Restarting on my P2

Hi guys,I have a 2011 P2 with two Gen 1 Lowrance HDS 8s . Since Ive had the boat, the units would restart when I cranked the engine. A few months ago the Interstate battery that came on the boat died, so I replaced in with an equivalent BPS brand battery. Since replacing the battery, the units will restart after about an hour of being into the water. Except now, they will just start restarting on their own and wont stop…no engine cranking involved. Obviously a low voltage problem, but not sure what to do to fix it. Ive cleaned all the connections.My cranking battery is a group 27, which I know is a small battery. But, a friend of mine has the same boat/battery and doesnt have this issue. Any input would be greatly appreciated.Thanks!

the reserve current on the battery could be an issue or the way the units are hard wired. lowrance has GREAT customer service800-628-4487

Assuming that your battery and charger are both good, and the units are run through the boats harness, then direct wiring of your units to the battery should resolve the issue. Yes, a group 27 battery is small if your engine is an Opti. 1000 ccas should be minimum for Opti and accessories.

It could be connections or most any glitch, and reserve capacity falling generally impacts this which is why it happens in an hour. The wiring on the units is extremely small and easily impacted by any variance of voltage. The units have 10 gauge supplied to the console and the connections could be an issue after time. Connections and corrosion at all terminals would be a good place to start. Bass Cat Parts has a 6 gauge tinned harness available to reduce the issue, and this is the standard harness on Premium models for now 3 model years, and it only powers the LCR unist. Then we have seen a few isolated units with the 6 gauge harnesses which have experienced this voltage shutdown incident. If thats not enough demand supply power its not boat related. We continue to express the size of wiring and connections on the actual units is a problem.

I performed the wire upgrade on my 13 p2 awhile back because i was getting voltage drop. And was having graph issues. I would suggest having your graph display the voltage. This way you can monitor the voltage at the graph using the graph as the volt meter. I highy reccomend taking the graphs off the boats harness. Low voltage can not only cause graph to shut down (which i think is a safety feature). But can also cause internal graph issues. I will add if you decide to upgrade your wiring with bcb wire to measure the amount of wire you need and call bcb parts.
