It is a very slick idea. I once helped a friend fancy up his boat (back when one sonar was typical) and the wiring issues were a pain to deal with. Now it is more or less like the old ethernet networking, where you have one cable run and you can put “taps” wherever you want to access the data. Now a sonar in the front can talk to the transducer in the back or vice-versa, not to mention GPS and whatever else you choose to add.
