Hey guys. Got a 522 CI in for repair….got water in it. Thing is, my X27 now shows GPS module not found. The units are linked. Is my antenna bad, or does the bow unit have to be connected for the dash unit to function properly. If its the antenna, is the cable tied off somewhere underneath the top cap? Its in a bind, and I cant get to the connector to test to see if the antenna is getting power. It would be very hard to believe that both units would have issues at the same time. I have contacted Linda Colt about the 522 CI…shes taking care of it. Hate to have to contact her again about the dash unit (or antenna). Would be the ultimate 1-2 punch for a Humminbird commercial…yep, that me with two units down and the guy with the Humminbird wackin em on my holes. Please say both units have to be connected!
It is a bad receiver and a fairly common issue. You can also have problems with the connections that presents a similar problem. If the receiver is on the front of the boat and the front unit, then the power node has no supply on the NMEA set up. BCB
The 522 CI is on the bow….although currently at Lowrance. The X-27 is in the dash. The antenna (receiver) is at the transom. How to I get the cord for the antenna to slide out so I can check it or send it in….I can take the antenna off and grab the cord…..but I think it is tied off….wont pull out!
How about the in line fuse on the power cord coming out of the unit? Cant find any fuse to see if it is blown. Finally got the receiver(antenna) cable out….tested the cable to the receiver(antenna)- no power. Main power cable which plugs into unit has power. Guess it has to be the fuse (if there is one) or the “double T connector” or the cable that runs to the receiver from the unit. Checked the terminator on the “double T connector” and it looks new.
If that receiver is the quick mount, then you should have a short shunt cable coming off it. About 12″ or so. BCB
It is the quick mount (nice feature by the way). Heres what I know…no power from the cable from the “T” connector to the receiver, no power coming out of the “T” connector (tested the leads and hooked up the receiver to the “T” connector, hooked up the receiver the bow cable (linked to “T” connector)…nothing, tested cable from unit to “T” connector (removed male end from “T”) no power. It has to be (1) the unit itself (which I cannot test without removing from dash) (2) the cable from the unit to the “T” (3) a fuse in the cable somewhere which I cannot find. Any idea if a in-line fused was used in rigging? Any chance the water in the unit @ the bow had something to do with this since they were “linked”?
IF the NMEA 2000 cable is not rigged to a power source (as is mine at the dash), how is the receiver rigged for power? Found the NMEA cable with the wires just cut and taped off. Any chance is gets power from the bow unit, which is inop at this time…?
All right, no fuse…that helps a bit. smbass, my units are networked with a “double T”. The front unit has an internal antenna (which is not currently connected and @ Lowrance) and has the black cable running to the “double T”. The dash unit (x27) has the black cable running to the “doubleT”. The third cable from the “double T” runs to the rear receiver (antenna). The “double T” has a terminator on the last outlet. Neither of the NMEA wires coming out of the dash unit are connected (cut and taped off). The dash unit powers up and has sonar….just “gps module not found”. There is no power coming out or into the “double T”….and no power coming out of either bow unit cable or rear mounted receiver cable. I cant figure out how the rear mounted receiver gets power…thought the NMEA (black, red, and shield) had to be mounted to power source for the receiver to work (guess not since its work fine in the past w/o being powered). Wondering if the bow units power source is tied to the rear receiver??? I have tried hooking up the receiver to both the “double T” and the bow cable…nothing, but that figures since I tested both cables with an ohm meter and got nothing. Seems to me it has to be the dash unit itself (which I doubt) or the intial cable coming out of the dash unit to the “double T” (which I also doubt). Got me puzzled since I have never had the bow unit removed and tried to operate the dash unit…with the bow unit @ Lowrance, I suddenly get “gps module not found” on the dash unit……seems too coicidental for two units to go down at the same time.
