Mike- Actually the angle of the picture is a little deceiving, it will set below the jackplate. I was not sure if there would be any issues with placing it in that spot on the transom.
Mounted a LSS2 last week. I tried where Cat puts the HB from the factory but the LSS2 wouldnt clear the motor when trimmed down. If you dont want holes a JP bracket is your best bet. I put mine way under the step hanging out the back several inches (about 2 inches right of the overflow?) but I also have three small holes all the way through because there isnt much glass in that area. I sealed them inside and out with 3M 4200 and let it cure for 24 hours and no problems. Im getting a great picture with the transducer down there!
Here ya go Ward. Like I said if I had known this area was as thin on glass as it is OR I had intended on selling any time soon I would have for sure gone with a JP mount like MeanV. An awful lot of people are afraid of holes in their boats even though they come full of holes from the factory. I used the SS hardware provided with my HDS unit and like I said sealed inside and out after a good cleaning with acetone. The holes dont bother me in the least. I simply know from being around boat sales there are people out there that shy away anything that has been drilled. You will get a clean shot in all directions mounting the puck in this area.
John- Thanks for the pictures, I had looked at that spot but was not sure if it would work or not. Now I know it will with the exception of it being an area of thin glass.
