Very close to ordering a new Lynx but struggling with the engine choice. Never dreamed the engine choice would have me in such fits and was looking for some guidance. 4 StrokesHave a 150 Mercury 4-stroke on my current rig and have been mostly happy with it. Super quiet, reliable, but not as good on fuel as I was expecting and the low idle is pretty rough. Holeshot is not as strong as Id like either. Was considering the Yamaha 250 SHO. Ive never owned a Yamaha outboard but have a couple of sport ATVs that I have beat the living p*ss out of and still run like a champ. I believe they are a quality company and have no doubt they make a good outboard, I just have no experience with them.Mercury Verado. To me, this looks like the cats meow as I cant help but think a 300 Verado would make this thing absolutely fly! I love the idea of the power steering and fly-by-wire hotfoot/throttle. But I have concerns about the weight and added complication of the supercharger/ engine electronics. Again, I have no real experience with the Verado line but then again, I have no doubt they make a good product.2 StrokesMercury 250 XS. Proven, you see them everywhere, no oil changes, but hate the fact that you have to keep extra oil on board. We fish up north alot, sometime in some pretty remote lakes, and 2-stroke oil is just something additional you have to keep on hand. Maybe Im making a big deal of it? Evinrude 300 G2. This one seems all over the board and thats disappointing. While Im very familiar with BRP and the Rotax engines in their ATVs and SXSs, most of what I see concerning Evinrude G2 on the internet is not good. Lots of sensor and electrical issues. Love the integrated power steering and clean look but dont want issues. Seems like its a love/hate thing in that they either run like a striped ape or are an anchor. No in between. Again, no actual experience with the Evinrude line.So thats where you guys come in! Was curious to hear your thoughts and suggestions. While not new to boating (27 Cobalt R7 w/ 380 HP Volvo) or high performance fishing boats (have a lot of seat time in my dads Ranger w/ 250XS) this is my first one where Im making the choices and more importantly, writing the check! I am planning on keeping this boat for a while, kids are about out and Im fortunate to be able to afford something like this, I dont want to throw money away either. My first post here but Ive been plotting and lurking in the background for months! Thank you for your help!
If I didnt fish tournaments and was gonna keep it a long time I personally would rig this out with a 300 verado. If you do fish a lot of tournaments I would go with the Pro XS
I have been running the Evinrude G2 on a new Caracal this year (225HP) and with almost 25 hours have had no problems. The power steering is great and the low-end torque of the motor is simply amazing. Fuel consumption is surprisingly good also. The foot throttle took a little getting used to-I was used to the Hotfoot mechanical throttle and this one is much more sensitive. With the Icon monitor I am able to switch back and forth between hand and foot throttle. The oil consumption on this engine is very low, and I there is no odor when it is running.I really like having the oil tank on the motor rather than in the boat-my bilge can stay super clean. With the low oil consumption I never feel the need to carry extra oil. The Icon monitor will show me the oil level in the tank at my dash. I previously ran Mercs (Pro-XS) and they were excellent engines so I have no complaint there, but they sure like to drink oil. .

There are a couple of good options and your vision on the engine is what will make a difference. You have mentioned two good four strokes, in both 250 and 300 either will do fine. You mention the Pro XS and the G2 Evinrude, that is one you have to figure out that direction on. The Lynx really likes the 4 strokes, and runs well with a Pro XS. We have not run one with the Evinrude G2 version. BCB
Think Im going to go with the Verado 300. Now the really difficult part…….colors…….
Keep us updated. Looking forward to experiencing your difficulties on a Lynx one day! Lol!

Good choice……………..I just sold my 06 Puma which had a Verado 250 on it. Never had any issues, just yearly maintenance. Im ordering another BCB and it will be a Lynx with the Verado 300 Pro. Good luck with your build.Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
