making new bunks

anyone out there happen to know the cut sizes ill need for my 2005 puma…figured I will get this project started and maybe Ill be lucky and get it done by spring and ice off. Thanks sebastian

I believe that the boards are 2×6 (4) that are then ripped to 41/4 wide. Next you go to front ( outside edge) measure in 1 inch then me back 18 inches (outside edge again) draw a line cut that .you now have your boards ready to carpet

Chamfer the back(leading) edges of the bunks 45 degrees about half way down the 1 1/2 inch thickness as well. Facilitates loading and looks neater. A winch strap helps to pull the bunks down when you have to drill and attach them.

Someone told me a while back that you can call BCB with your trailer serial# and they can send you new bunks with carpet already on them. So all you will have to do is take old ones off and bolt on the new ones. I hope this is true. Maybe BCB will confirm.

seebassk wrote:Im afraid I dont quite understand that last post about the leading edgesI dont know how to post a hand drawn diagram to show, but have a look at the factory bunks on your boat now and you should see a little angled “ramp” at the back end of each bunk so your boat doesnt hit the full 1 1/2 inch thickness of the end when loading. It is bevelled so the boat hits about 3/4 of an inch of the edge and slides onto the bunks a little easier.

okay. I get it now. Next question is if people are using normal treated wood or are people trying out composite materials for the bunks

Call parts, have your serial number handy…just ordered them for my 2005 Puma…shipping can be expensive if you cannot pick them up…I would talk to them before you start the project….

Here you go. Most are still using normal treated wood. The odd person over on BBC is trying those new composite devices that sit on top of the bunks that I think are called Gator Back.
