South Carolina is good other than the property tax.
Texas and Sam Rayburn is always a prime local. Lufkin is a nice area close with plenty of amenities. If shopping and niceties are not an issue, Toledo Bend a great location.
Several mini and small lakes can be a lot of fun and offer low pressure, great fishing and lower lakeside home prices. They will cycle in quality more than larger lakes.
There are dozens of rural locations, and small lake, very close to major waters and larger towns. Taneycomo comes to mind, while water homes are now expensive a home in the country is not bad. You have Table Rock in your pocket and Taneycomo is a hidden treasure.
Here locally Bull Shoals is not very busy and fishes strong all season.
Finding a small river location can be intriguing and there are all sorts or reservoirs where their river areas are not populated. The upper end of Guntersville for example is very rural. They will fish smaller, always have current, and beach type access may be limited.
There are dozens (and dozens) of inland Florida lakes that have great fishing and reasonable weather most of the season. Away from major hurricane issues and the threats can be worked around, other than water and the spin off tornados.
Southeast Tennessee and North Georgia have some special rural places people overlook, as does Northwest Alabama. Same holds true in areas of Arkansas and Middle TN.
Search in the climate you like, and really good waters you want to be close to.
