If anyone on here owns a Margay I would Love to see the pics! Let me know how you like it and what you had before. Options you have and any you wish you had. Thanks!Dan
My Margay pics are posted in the owners gallery. I had 3 rangers and several other boats (Challenger and procraft) before I bought my little cat. Most recently I had a 518 and a z20. I bought the Margay because it is the right boat for me right now and most importantly is paid for. It fits in the garage(was having to store my z20…no fun) and is very economical to run. I have the vision tour package and I added some other goodies I highly recommend. Blinker trim, hot foot, stereo, 998si, 12v outlet, keel guard, new rims, platinum warranty til 2020 etc. I have fished a couple tournaments out of the Margay and it has done well. I have to take it easy because that little cat will move. Shoot me a message if you have any questions.
I dont have mine posted here, but theyre over on BBC boards. Search for the thread titled “runt of the litter”Mine is my first boat. Its got the Vision Tour package, which came with it as part of a promo package for the first several ordered boats. I upgraded the troller to a 24V Maxxum with the digital speed control to maximize battery life…havent had a dead troller yet no matter how long I fish. Fish finders were a slight upgrade to a 788HD DI unit in the dash, and a 728 on the bow. Added a SmartCraft mini gauge to monitor engine critical data better. Custom color combo. Hambys keel guard. Trailer brakes. Trailer grab post, aka “stripper pole”. Trailer back up light.Thee motor is a 115ProXS. Its fast enough for me and where I fish. I think if I filled the livewells regularly, Id definitely want a 150 for better holeshot, but to step up to that was about the cost if all my other uogrades (actually, the 150ProXS wouldve been a few hundred more than all my other upgrades). I chose the fancy bits instead. Runs right at 54 on GPS, and at WOT its burning roughly 10-10.5GPH, so at worst its getting about 5MPG.If it were an option when I purchased, I wouldve gotten the MercMonitor to make finding the best fuel economy a little easier, and so I would have a little more data available on the screen at once instead of having to cycle through the screens so much. To do it now, I have to purchase a trim sending unit and the gauge itself. As I understand it, the cable that came with the Mini Gauge will work with the MercMonitor. Those items will set me back about $400, from what I was told by Don at European Marine (a BBC sponsor), but Ive not called to check prices anywhere else like my dealer (Greene Boat & Motor) or Sherm. One thing I am about to change is the little 1″ transom tie downs. They worked fine for about 5-6 months, and then the retract feature went away. Apparently, the springs arent very robust and dont tolerate much tension being put on the strap. I assume the failures were operator error, so Im replacing them, and the “real” Boat Buckles are only about $10 more than the ones I have now.Last edited by yowman on October 5th, 2013, 12:20 am, edited 2 times in total.
Wow…sorry for the giant, single paragraph! I swear I broke it up with appropriate spacing, but apparently it got formatted a little wonky when I saved.iPad: you have to go back to edit and place a line or space between the ()Last edited by yowman on October 5th, 2013, 12:22 am, edited 2 times in total.
Gotcha! I posted from my Galaxy S3 phone…thought maybe it was something there. But, now I understand the code a little better in the event I have the same issue again.
