About to swap out my old mg. Its lasted well but Id like to go with a MK this time. I dont want an anchor on the bow though. My understanding is the maxxum is lighter than the fortrex. Will I loose any top end with the maxxum vs fortrex vs mg? Thanks-Aaron
Not sure about weight differences, but if you have a fitted cover, you will to get it adjusted to fit the Fortrex. The frame sits pretty high, but I love mine.
Maxxum is considerably lighter than Fourtrexx and performance will in small increments increase with a lighter bow. It is easier to hold up a fishing rod with a 3/8 ounce jig than one with a 1 ounce punch jig.
Ive got a 101 maxxum on my classic . — Previous boat had a Motorguide . — Both are excellent , but after 20 years of Motorguide , I still cant get used to the switch being on the left side of the pedal . — Ive stomped the beejeebers out of the speed control I dont know how many times , and it still doesnt make it go !! — I do like the M/K better though . — Much quieter . — Hoss
Haha. Thanks hoss. And a good call on the boat cover. I hadnt thought of that.
have the fortex, really like the lift assist and it does set high, but I am ok with that as clearance for rod handles/reels is better. My cover still fits, but barely. The only drawback (imo) is the “speed” control, I seem to fight adjusting it both up and down.
I have a Fortrex 36 volt currently, and have the very common interference issues that many have. I have minimized them, but definitely not eliminated. I will not name names but have heard from several people more knowledgeable than myself that a lot of the interference issues may go away with 24 volt systems. Also the pluses of less weight and less batteries to maintain. I am not a tournament fisherman though, so my needs may be different. I will definitely consider a 24 volt system on my next boat. BillP.S. I do really like the lift assist, if the maxxum offered that I would order the lighter maxxum.Last edited by Fish Doc on February 12th, 2013, 3:30 am, edited 1 time in total.
Fortrex! Both are good but the fortrex is better.I dont like how the bow mount is on the maxxum.I have owned a Maxxum, 2009 Blazer, Fortrex 2011 Ranger, 2012 Basscat Mg 82lb Tour and Fortrex. Each brand will have its bad ones but the Fortrex is better built and so much quiter! That plastic part that sticks out. Its one whole piece on the maxxum and no lift assist.
I have the Maxxum and like it a lot better than my previous Motorguide. I have not used the Fortrexx but the Maxxum is all Ill never need. By the way, if you are looking check with Jones Trolling Motor and keep and eye out for the factory refurbished units. Thats how I picked up mine and have had zero issues going into my third season with it.Jason Ferbrache – Edmond, OK 1995 Basscat Eyra

He matches up well with BCBs customer service philosophy. John is a great guy.
