http://www.chron.com/sports/outdoors/ar … to-9883440 Boat collision before daylight this morning…….one was a Cat……ouch! No one injured. Three people escaped injury Friday after two boats crashed at 5:25 a.m. during the opening hours of the 2016 Big Bass Splash on Lake Sam Rayburn in Jasper County. The first boat, carrying anglers Louis and Vicki Pronio, of Montgomery, was heading out onto the lake when it was struck on the port side by a boat carrying Richard Arrendell, which was traveling at roughly 25 mph.The accident left a two-foot hole on the side of Pronios vessel, which Arrendale followed back to shore as water began filling it.
Only way the ranger could beat the cat was to sink him….lol. Glad everyone is ok. This folks, is why I conceal cary, even on my boat. My PTSD would have kicked in and Id unloaded on the ranger boat and motor..,,lmao
Dang! When I saw the title I thought it was going to be about the lady leading with a 12.04. Ive never fished the Rayburn Big Bass Splash but my buddy has told me how crazy it can be with all the boats on the water.Jim EbarbMany, LA (Toledo Bend Lake)2004 Cougar/ 225 OptimaxHumminbird Helix 12 Chirp SI on BalzOut Mount at bowLowrance HDS 7 at bowHumminbird Helix 12 Mega SI on Ram Mount at ConsoleLowrance HDS 8 in dash at console
This is exactly why the insurance company for BCB has specified a restricted takeoff and controlled atmosphere for around 15 years, one launch, one checkin. Which had always been done even before they formatted that restriction. They flew a man in from New York to investigate and evaluate our process about 15 years ago. Their concern is early morning be on the water ready to fish at daylight events, such as this. These folks had an angel on their shoulder that morning! Very fortunate no one was seriously injured or deceased. BCB
the big bass splash hurts the lake more than it helps the economy . bob sealy has never released how many entries he has or how many fish die . when you put this tournament and the high school tournaments with 497 boats plus all the other tournaments this lake gets pounded. would not hurt my feelings to see a boat limit set by the texas parks and wildlife per tournament.
Is it me or has there been more incidents involving two boats the past few months then in recent history? Or is there just better reporting so most of us just hadnt heard about them in the past? Just my observation but it seems to me there have been more folks, mostly younger, getting into bass fishing for the competition (a good thing) but so many of those new to bass fishing are also brand new to boating. Many have the money or credit to purchase HP hulls but just dont have the boating experience that others who have been on the water most of their life have. Could be what is leading to more accidents but thats just speculation and some personal observations on my part.
