I had the power head replaced on my 08 200 Optimax. Picked it up from the dealership and put it in the water and its down on power. It was slow out of the hole and will only turn about 4800 rps on the topside, and has a soft surge at WOT. I took it back to the dealer and theyve been trying to fix it for over 2 weeks now. Theyve tried everything from new coils to fuel pump, replaced the fuel lines, and even disassembled the powerhead to see if there was anything wrong in it. Theyve been on the phone with other merc techs and even an engineer and so far everyone is stumped. If anyone has any ideas or experience with something like this it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
I would check the exhaust system and make sure it is right. Just a small mis alignment or imperfection is drastic on a two stroke engines ability to make power. After that I would look at the compatability of the ECU, injectors, and powerhead.BrianBrianHAWG Hunter2013 BassCat Eyra2013 Mercury 250 Pro XS Gen2 L/U
Get in touch with Sherm. I bet he would do his best to help you or send you in the right direction.
Sounds like they missed full throttle.
I would find out where the power head came from in terms of reman or new and contact that source. New fully dressed I want another one or another mechanic source approved by merc to redo their head. Remanufactured and I want another from that source. He said she said from a distance aint gonna fix nothing as far as I am concerned. Never works in my business either. You were sold a power head that was intended to propel the boat properly. Being an brp owner I know a little about powerheads. I have heard of shops even taking wrong year cylinder heads and put them on top of new heads only to detonate and all sorts of stuff. The standards out there are as scary as doctors out there. Me personally….Id take it to the nearest shop that does numerous merc remains if it exists as it does for brp. Has to be some shops that reman merc heads for merc to resell?Last edited by clownshoes on April 24th, 2012, 10:42 pm, edited 1 time in total.C.O.D. Jr. III

I sure learned a lot in your comments. Chris, Good luck you will find a fix. Hang in there.
We assume this would be a new Mercury long or short block? Doubt used parts are on a Merc block. Totally different system than the remans other use.
Typical doctor…look smart….dont know chit.C.O.D. Jr. III
Doubt that… They do use old parts and rebuilds on some EFI Reman power heads at Mercury, though Opti engine heads are usually NIB.Last edited by Bass Cat Boats on April 25th, 2012, 8:59 am, edited 1 time in total.
