Is it worth getting the xs on a pantera 2? I know there is not tons of difference… Just wondering about performance to price ratio. I currently have a 200 on my pantera 2 and on my new boat I was thinking about the 200 pro xs. Sherm gave me his input (he is very helpful and this will be my 3rd cat I have bought from him) but intersested in hearing what others have to say.Last edited by badhabitfishing on November 6th, 2009, 12:49 am, edited 1 time in total.
Id like to know Sherms input…I kind of imagine I know what he would say though. I hope sometime soon to be buying my third Cat from Sherm too!!!!
There is no reason to upgrade to a Pro XS engine. They are identical in every significant area and badging is the largest difference. BCB
Billius – I guess you decided on a new P2 to replace the BayCat. The PII would be ideal for the Mobile Delta. I had a 98 P2 when I lived in Mobile and it served me very well.Last edited by rlb8s on November 6th, 2009, 10:39 am, edited 1 time in total.
It sounds like hes talking about a new boat, not an engine upgrade. Without knowing for sure, I would think the lower unit is better, the hub is tougher, and most importantly, the engine mounts are stiffer for high speed handling. I would if I were buying new.
There are Differences, like all Pro XSs it has the Reeds,PSI is upped, and the cool stickers….you will not see ANY performance difference…BUT guys there is NO MORE 200 Optimax in a 20inch version, NONE, all they make is the 200 Pro XS. Now if you find a non current 200 then you may see a price difference, but on a BCB ALL 200 Optis are Pros….And Im sure in studies their may be a hair of a MPG difference, the regular 200 was already about 220hp, 210-220 at the prop….Your Signature …

I wish I could say that Ive decided on something!!! Im just trying to find out as much info as I can. So far…I have zero options!! No one wants to trade and its not sold. Not sure what Ill do. Ive even thought about another brand, but I dont want to do that. If I could sell the Baycat, then Id have some choices. My boat has been for sale for a month and theres really been only one person who was remotely interested in it and that may or many not work out.
Keith maybe I didnt make it clear enough but as others have mentioned your new 2010 PII will have a 200proXS as its Mercs only 200 hp DFI production motor for 2010…. Sherm EDIT: That would be in the 20″ version like we use on bass rigs, of the L Series. 25″ versions in XL Series and longer are still standard Opti series.Last edited by pantera296 on November 7th, 2009, 5:20 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Thanks Sherm.
Hey Bill, Try going to http://www.louisianasportsman.com and posting the Bay Cat in the classified section there. We have an excellent market for Bay Boats and you would be putting it in the right place for people looking for that type of rig. Im sure Mobile isnt too far for someone looking for a bad to the bone bay boat. Also try calling Premier Performance in Gonzales, La. They are our local Bass Cat dealer and have sold a few Bay Cats. They may be willing to trade or work with you on something. Just a couple of suggestions off the top of my head. I wouldnt hesitate to say that our market is probably the biggest in the U.S. for Bay boats considering our versatile fishery. You may be able to get rid of the Bay Cat alot easier around here. Although I would think you are in a good market as well. Its worth a try. Chris Coupel Paulina, La.Chris CoupelPaulina, La.
