The engine wait time is much longer at this time and the production capacity simply can not meet the demand. Aftermarket parts have not had the same durability, from learned affiliation with consumers who have tried them. They seem to have improved however.

Thanks for the info. Is there an aftermarket for the Gen II torque master even available? I have been told two different things. I also bought the Platinum extended warranty which would not include the lower unit if I went aftermarket so thinking that is not a good option.
My Mercury dealer has a new lower unit in stock I believe. I am in NY.

PM sent
Hi Rick,
I saw that you sent a PM but nothing came through. Call Eric at Mid Coast Marine @ 631 289 3949. I know he had a new one in stock a couple of months ago. Good luck.
C130- Is your Eyra at Bowden?

Yes, it was but went and got it around noon and going to plan B. I doubt it’ll be quicker but going to see.
Someone else had a two month old boat there that had torn the lower unit out and they were ahead of me for getting one. So, be extra careful because lower units are hard to come by! It’s finally cooling off here, I’m on vacation, and no boat.
Question now regarding insurance. Insurance company is saying one to two weeks to complete approval. Is this normal? Insurance company has received all of the info, photos, etc.
What Insurance Company is it? From your description it appears straight forward and should be more like 2-3 days max for review.

Thanks, that is what I am hoping for after a couple of phone calls. It is Travelers insurance.
I am considering putting a new 4 stoke on it, haven’t made a decision yet.

Also, opinions on welding a new skeg on if that’s the only damage? I hit something on Conroe and broke part of the skeg off. Boats at the dealer now to see if there’s any other damage or just the skeg. It was mentioned that there had been issues getting new Mercury lower units, hoping to find out today.I really don’t want to go with any aftermarket lower unit. Motor is under original warranty and I have the extended warranty. I start vacation Friday and hoping to get the boat up and running ASAP.
For those on Conroe be careful with the lake lowered 2 feet. Right after I hit what I assume was a stump a guy went flying by right where I had just hit the object.
Lol mercury will never warranty a lower unit!!! But a rebuilt one totally rebuilt if you need one it DOES have a full year warranty and they will honor it!!! 3350 is what I paid and received it in threee days!!! You’ll just have to turn it in to youre insurance! Let me know if you want one and I’ll dig up the place I got mine from! ALL parts are NEW in it!!! Insurance will give you 6800 if it’s deemed unrepairable!!! Great service too!!! Mike Farris

Phil Addison is right. A stump gives too much to damage internal parts unless you’re prop is torn up!

Thanks Mike. There’s damage internally to the lower unit. Lots of opinions on aftermarket, I’ve not had one so no experience with one. Some dealers say they’ve sold a lot and had very little issues, others say stay away from them. If motor wasn’t under warranty I’d consider one.
I’ve found a couple of new 4 strokes so looking at repowering but haven’t made a decision yet. Might sell my 2 stroke motor.
They are as a new one. And you’d pocket thirty five hundred and insurance doesn’t care! Have a great day!
