The first Opti I bought was a 1999. It died just after it turned over 1000 hours. I am the one who killed it too. My deaf ears did not hear the alarm, overheated it for far too long. It was on its original powerhead, lower unit and compressor. It still looked new!The 2010 I have now is just over 400 hours. I did have to replace the compressor (under warranty) but that is it. I have every maintenance record for it since new.Use the right fuel, oil and additives. Let it warm up, run it hard, then let it cool down. Dont just start it up, blast off, then immediatley shut it off. If you are new to DFI motors, research a “cold seizure” so you do not blow a motor through your own doing. Also, if the motor does not have a Mercmonitor or a way to monitor the coolant temp of the motor, buy a Mercmonitor. It will cost you $500 but will save thousands when you get something stuck in a T-stat.RH
