Mercury problem

I have a 2000 mercury 150 xr6. Took it out today ran fine all day running between spots. When headed back to the ramp it ran fine until I came off plane. It started running rough and died. Cranked it back up and it idled rough. When I put it in gear it vibrates and shakes the boat until I give it throttle. Once it gets running it runs fine until I come off plane. Loaded it up and brought it home and ran it with muffs for about 30 min with no stalling or vibrating out of gear and in gear. Everything seems fine should I take it out and run it and see if it does it again? Anyone know what might have caused it to do this? I just dont want to run it and make my problem worse if I have one. Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

Check your plugs. My 200 efi acted the same way

I 2nd that, plugs an plug wire check. Happened twice to me in past, plug one time an wire bad another.

If plugs are bad wouldnt it still act up with the muffs? Ill check them kinda wondering why it went away when I brought it home. Thanks

Change your fuel lines to the ethanol resistant ones lately? May have picked up some trash in the filters. I would not run it until getting it checked out either by troubleshooting like youre doing, or taking it in to see a service center.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner

Yes I have ethanol resistant fuel lines. I have been using stabil in the fuel but last fill up I put a can of sea foam instead. Would this cause any issues?

Shouldnt. But being a carb engine, it could have been loose plug wire as well which would have it idle rough. It ran okay when on plane? No loss of rpms during your normal operation?96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner

Yes ran perfect once on plane up to wot. Coming off plane starts running rough. Get it home runs perfect. Im confused dont know what to check

Ill check the plugs and wires tomorrow. Thought I might have some trash in the carbs. The vibrating when in gear idle speed is what really has me concerned but it goes away when your running.

Running on the muffs and under a true load of pushing a boat can often times give very different results. Try posting your question on the BBC Mercury High Performance board as well.
