I have a 2008 Mercury Optimax Pro XS. My 26 Trophy prop just came in from Mercury and Im confused on what hub I need to use. Do I use the one that comes with it or do I need to order the other hub that appears to be for the “fat” shaft? Thanks

ProXS = fat shaft. Sorry, I know it is more expensive Judd Lasiter

You dont need a spare hub. You tear the one up you have now; youll have more problems than that.Last edited by PhilAddison on July 17th, 2008, 11:06 pm, edited 1 time in total.

The only hub that will fit an XS is the “Fat” hub, since the prop shaft is larger than the standard hub and has more splines. I agree with Phil that, given its all metal construction, that you will do significant damage if you tear it up—however, I guess Im conservative. I carry a spare hub with my spare prop in my boat. I think I paid about $150 for the spare, if that helps. Best regards, Mike Whitten/Germantown, TN

I fished a tournament with a draw partner with a 250 pro xs and he was idling (a little too fast for my taste) through some timber and hit a stump. It didnt kill the engine, but left us dead in the water. After being towed back and removing the prop, the hub and prop were fine, but the lower unit was trashed. Silly question but from the Mercury website it looks like the Tempest and Trophy take the same part # hub for the opti XS. Can I use the old one out of my Tempest or will it damage coming out?

Thanks Phil, I plan on doing it at the lake Saturday. Didnt want to get there and not have what I needed.
