I have a 2007 BassCat Puma and I am having issues with the Mercury SmartCraft fuel gauges … specifically the readout. Neither tank level appears to show the correct percentage of fuel in the tanks and the gauges seem to take forever to show/update what level they do have. I have referred to my Mercury manual in attemts to recalibrate, etc. but have had no luck in resolving my issues. Has this occurred to anyone else and if so, what were your remedies ??? I am hoping I can fix this problem without having to deal with my local dealership. Thanks for any help …

Ryan, The SmartCraft fuel guages will be slow to react. The are others here that will have more to add about the gauges and all I can tell you is it will take a little seat time and maybe a time or two that you run out of gas (been there) before you learn to “read” the gauges. Maybe check out the BCB most asked questions part of the board to help you more. Im still learning.

A quick way to check a fuel level is, Once stopped for example Right says 90% – push the dash button to Left – then turn the key off and then back on – It will instantly read the other side. At least on mine it does. If you just switch it over, it does take forever. Also mine reads 0% Low fuel all the time when ballin down the lake.

Smartcraft adds a delay in the updating of the fuel level on purpose so that the sloshing and centrifugal force effect on the level of the fuel all gets averaged out. That way the guage isnt always bobbing up and down and causing the SmartCraft computer to recalculate all the things it displays that fuel level into account. Deke[font=&QUOT]Deke[/font]

The SC Gauges are just Sllloooowwww to respond. It is an averaging method to limit gauge bounce. You can recalibrate the gauges as you fill the tanks and it will remain calibrated until you disconnect power. BCBLast edited by Bass Cat Boats on January 21st, 2008, 6:50 pm, edited 1 time in total.
