Mercury upper engine mounts

Has anyone replaced the upper motor mounts in a Mercury Outboard I have a few questions. I have a 98 200 EFI that has a bad from rear of engine right hand upper motor mount. ( I will replace both)I have and have read the service manual on replacement of them it involves removing the powerhead. The service manual doesn’t really defined how to just replace the engine mounts, it describes how to remove the powerhead and disassemble the powerhead and reassemble and install. The next chapter describes how to disassemble the mid-section and part of that is the motor mounts. What I’m looking for is: Is there any trick of the trade ie Time Savers in doing the job. The manual gives the information to completely remove the powerhead to include all electrical cables water lines, shift and throttle cables. Does all this really need to be done or can you leave most hooked up raise the powerhead enough to sneak in the new mount s and then reinstall. What if any tricks of the trade can be applied to just doing the Mounts

You dont have to unhook all the wires and stuff to replace motor mounts. You can just take the powerhead bolts out and you can lift it high enough to get the mid off. Replacing the motor mounts is not a hard job. I would definitely go back with solid motor mounts, I think mine came from Bobs.

Cool Thanks Matt79 that was my vision on removal, replacement..The only parts I could see I would need is Mounts and Lower Powerhead Gasket Correct. Also should I assume you have the special Flywheel hook and Engine Lift (cheery picker) to do the job. Process: I would follow Remove the upper engine cowlRemove the lower engine cowlRemove the 10 prowerhead bolts Lift the power head enough to remove the exhaust spacer Replace the mountsInstall New Powerhead Gasket reverse the process.

Yes you are correct on the parts. Yes you need the flywheel hook and a hoist. It is not a bad job at all to do.

You will need to replace the midsection exhaust gaskets and the divider plate. This may require a bit more time. For a very good Mercury tech here it was a 30 minute job to replace these gaskets. That technician set the standards for bench time on dealership labor time. They allowed 2 hours in those older times. BCB

Not gonna make any $$$ on flat rate giving out that kind of information. 30 minutes, aint even worth getting the tools out for.

Thats why they allowed 2 hours. He was very fast and used all hand tools.

Hmmm..Ive done a few upper mounts in the last 30 yrs myself and I have to say there is no way I can come close to doing it in 30 minutes… Sherm

Wow lets see Good Tech 30min. Book Time 2 hrs I might be able to get it done in 4 hrs then lol lol but its good info to knowI now have the lift ring, Upper and Lower Solid Mounts are on there way from Bobs Marine BCB do you mean replace the divider plate or the gasket that goes on top of the plate.
