Mica Mist Carpet – keeping it clearn

Hi,

I’m ordering a white Caracal with purple bolts, sapphire accents, and Mica Mist carpet. I’m doing that because I live in AZ, and everything gets hot in the blazing sun. Also, I’m not too fond of gray, as everybody has that color. I had tan carpet in a 2004 Trition and loved it.

The dealer I’m working with is looking out for me and suggests selecting charcoal to hide stains. Charcoal is almost black and will be HOT.

With my Triton, I went to the car wash and used high pressure to clean the carpet, and that worked very well. I don’t recall having severe stains. I recall that the cockpit area was a high-use area, which is why I’m getting the ReFlex in the cockpit.

Is it hard to keep Mica Mist clean?

Do not get talked into the charcoal carpet. I have it and it gets hotter than blue blazes and I’m on south Champlain. On my last boat I had the light grey carpet and it was much better. After 13 years the carpet still looked pretty good. I cleaned it every year with water, a brush, and shop vac which is all you need. Soap can do more harm than good. As far as the tan/sand color, I don’t see it with those colors and to be honest, I think it will hurt you when you want to sell or trade in. I’m not a fan of how any thing with brown carpet looks on a boat but that’s me. I can’t speak to the functionality but it sounds like you can.

Good advice from Brian above in that soap will do more harm than good. If one uses soap, no matter how much rinsing one does, there is still a residue left which in turn actually attracts dirt and causes wear. Do not use your pressure washer either as it can lift the carpet. Over the years, I tried many different methods and settled ten years ago on the technique that BCB suggests. It is the water flood, 50/50 vinegar scrub, re-flood , shop vac, and then air dry. Your carpet will stay like new. And yes, the charcoal does get hot.

Do you get much dirt and gravel in your boats? That is an issue here for many of our lakes, meaning we have less then completely developed ramps and staging areas or have to get into boats without docks. The gravel and dirt embeds into the carpet.

I have yet to order my boat, so I don’t have any cleaning instructions that I assume I will get.

True Mica Mist is a great color. It is 24 ounce carpeting and does hide dirt better. The 28 ounce Charcoal/Ash is a good color, though yes it’s hot and dark. We wouldn’t shy from True Mica.

YES!!! Camp is on a dirt road and VT ramps usually have dirt/gravel parking areas so dirt gets tracked in. Parking at camp is grass/dirt. BCB says the mica isn’t bad. Guess I’d have to see a picture. BCB?

use shaving cream. Gets out any stain , and cleans marine carpet very well. There are videos on YouTube

Attached is a photo I found of a white Caracal with Mica Mist from Bass Cats by Serial Number. I think it looks great.

I almost pulled the trigger on a white, starlight blue and red-trimmed Caracal with the true mica. Really nice looking combo, and I agree every boat has gray these days so the tan is refreshing. BUT…I ended up going with a different color scheme and only the mid gray made sense. Either way I probably would have been happy.

In regards to keeping it clean, just regular vacuuming, rinsing with water and spot treatment as needed. No different than any other carpet.
