I am in the process of upgrading my TM to a 112lb minnkota fortrex from a motor guide 80lb. I have a PIV with a HB 899 DI on the front with a hydrowave. I have seen Doug Vahrrnburgs notes on BBC about how to setup the cables along the frame, but it looks really chintzy to me.My question is this, does any one have any experience with the transducer cable zip tied along the cable for a clean install vs along the frame with a big loop? Does it really make a difference? My motor guide gave me horrible TM interference when the TM was on. Should I also ground the TM head to battery? Any advice would be appreciated.

Well I had terrible interference with my fortrex. You will read all kind if FIXES. I tried chokes and rerouting. The one thing that worked for me. I split my ground coming from cranking battery to front graph at midship. Running the split down the tm shaft along with the transducer cable. I placed my ground on the clamp that holds the transducer. Worked for me. Eliminated my noise on the screen when the pedal was activated. This is a deep subject! . Actually found a diagram of this fix googling around. You will read many thing on this interference and wat causes it. Also wat works for my interferecent might not work for yours. I tried many things.this was my cure all. And yes IMO if you run your tranduser cable along the power lead it will increase your chances of heaving interference2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
I have a 112 on my boat that connects to a 959. The transducer cable runs down the shaft and strapped around the head issuing a transducer saver. Ive had no problems and no interference.
Assuming that you are putting a brand new Fortrex on, it will already have the internal ground built into it, as mine does. MK started building it into the new motors a year or two ago. One suggestion though, and that is to not use zip ties, but use electrical tape or velcro ties. I had a problem with interference for the past three months. I tried a choke, ferrite ring, isolating the transducer cable, disconnecting the charger, and a few other things. It turned out to be that the transducer cable was cinched so tight by the cable ties to the motor shaft that they damaged the cable and created interference. Those ducer cables are fragile. John Jones suggests using tape as well. My new install is not along the frame, and it is fine.

As said you will hear many different fixes. Wat works for one might not work for another. This interference is crazy.! My cable is is zip tied lightly. I have to agree they do seem to be a little more fragile these days. My cable is run along the frame . Though I did drill some extra holes to be able to hold it in place. As stated I tried many different fixes. Carefully to notice the changes that each made . If any! . RI interference is a beast. IVE read where some people never get rid of it. I dunno not know. Im glad mine is gone for now. It like to have drove me crazy. Ive even read .some get rid of it and later come back2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
I use electrical tape first to hold wires , then a zip tie to keep tape from unraveling to keep it loose. Tape by itself is not a long term solution in my opinion.
