I just corrected a faulty wiring issue on my 07 PII. The bow depth finder (a Lowrance 102C)was working when it wanted to and most of the time would not work. After investigating I saw the hot & ground wires that hooked into the front accessory switch had either worked their way loose or the strands of wire from the units power lead had started breaking one by one until only one or two were still hanging on. When I removed the trolling motor plug face cover and located this wire simply grasping it caused the two connections to break. Anyway, all is well now and it is back working better than it has in a while. But I have a question regarding a recommendation from Lowrance I noticed when looking at the troubleshooting suggestions in the manual. Which is: is there a fuse in the circuit for the two depth finders? (the one at the dash & bow) Lowrance recommends a 3 amp fuse and since it wasnt located in the line between the accessory switch and the unit I wanted to know if it was somewhere else. Thanks FYI If anyone else out there has experienced a similar issue I would highly recommend taking a look at the wiring before assuming it is okay. I had used a digital voltage checker and confirmed that I was getting 12+ volts at the units power cord. I was about to send it back to the factory when they suggested hooking it into the 332 wiring to see if it was the unit or wiring. My point is even though I was getting the adequate voltage at the units plug the fact that there were only one or two strands of wire still making the connection must have been reducing the needed amps below what the unit could operate at.
I installed my own Lowrance 520c on the console and an Eagle color graph on the bow. I followed the manual and added an in-line fuse on each. BCB has stated that they do not use in-line fuses and find that they do not have any more problems than normal.Jim EbarbMany, LA (Toledo Bend Lake)2004 Cougar/ 225 OptimaxHumminbird Helix 12 Chirp SI on BalzOut Mount at bowLowrance HDS 7 at bowHumminbird Helix 12 Mega SI on Ram Mount at ConsoleLowrance HDS 8 in dash at console
Thanks for the response toledobasser. I also have one additional question while reading through the depth finder manual. It indicates that the transducer supplied with the X102C would have had a temp sensor in it. Since I know the transducer was installed as a thru-hull, was the transducer supplied used or would another one without the temp sensor have been used? I currently have temperature at the console but would also like to have it at the bow and I need to know if I should order a sensor or simply turn on that function on the bow depth finder. Thanks
BCB units do not come with transducers and very few 102c units were factory installed. The newer units do come with temp transducers or shunted probes to the transom depending on the brand. The transducers in kit packs as mentioned gave integrated temp probes.
Mine is a 35th Anniversary Edition ( http://www.basscat.com/35th.html ) and I think that means the 102C at the bow was installed at the factory. At least when I spoke with a person at the factory he indicated the bow depth finder transducer was mounted somewhere between the ice chest and gas tank which would have had to occured in the production process, I think. There is no transducer on the trolling motor and I saw the wiring for it going down the center of the boat when I had the wiring cover and cup holder out. Also, did you mean that no temp sensor is installed? I know the 332C at the console has a temp sensor on the transom but I was just curious if the temp sensor and transducer that Lowrance referred to in their manual was used when it was installed to the hull. I know the readings wouldnt be as accurate as the one on the transom but it would still give some reference since the hull is under water.
Please read the above reply, and I believe it was Ivan showed me the boats features since I purchased mine from a third party after the dealer had gone out of business. Thanks
We do not use the one that Lowrance referred to, and neither do any other fiberglass companies. Only the aluminum companies can use that part as it is a skimmer style transducer for external installation.
Thanks for the reply. I had tried using the temp on the graph without success, and wanted to make sure it wasnt my error prior to ordering a temp sensor for the graph. The Lowrance folks had said the originally supplied transducer with the temp sensor could work as a thru hull application but also said there was a better option. Thanks again
The skimmer will ” work” though poorly as you have to either dope up the radiused bottom to fill the gap, or grind it which can knock the puck loose inside. Either will reduce signal strength a tremendous amount.
