MK Trolling Motor

I have a 36 volt 42″ MK Maxxum Pro series trolling motor now on my 06 Puma and when I get in some rough water it bounces out of the water and I lose ground. I thinking of replacing it with a 36 volt 52″ MK Maxxum Pro series trolling motor. Anyone have any pros or cons I should be aware of?

If you fish a lot of open water, then the std. MK Shaft is probably too short. The 52″ is also too long. The best compromise would be a 47″ shaft, though no one has built that yet. BCB

The 52″ is what I use and as BCB said most of the time it is a little to long but I take the bad with the good in order to have it when fishing open water. The downside is when you go with a 52″ shaft it is in the way of the starboard rod box lid when stowed. That is why when I order my boats I put a rod organizer in both rod boxes. That is the main downside not counting the extra shaft sticking up when fishing shallow water. Again, it can get in the way but worth its weight in gold when fishing open water and I prefer to fish that way anyway so I will have it on my next boat too. Good luck. Judd Lasiter

Making a 52″ MK into a 47″ MK is not hard at all. That would rid you of the downside Judd mentioned with the rod locker. I havent found it all that big of a deal and wouldnt be without the extra length fishing the big water. Get the 52″ and dont look back. You dont have to deploy the trolling motor to get to the rod locker, just pop it out a little bit. I have been running a 52 inch MK TM all year with no issues…I fish LSC and Lake Erie, but I also fish smaller inland lakes…Alot of big water guys in the north are using 60 inch shafts…I thought that was too much, but I like the 52 inch..I just have to pay attention and move the motor up when I am in extremely shallow water.. I have a 97 Jag, I do not have any issues opening the Rod locker…I installed both a Ram Mount and use 2 velcro straps to hold it in place..I love the lift assist..(Maxxum Pro)..I didnt go with the US though…I wanted direct site with my TM transducer..

Hey, Thanks to all that chimed in. I ordered the 52″ MK last night and its on its way. Now in a couple of weeks when I get my boat back from the hospital Ill install it and be ready to try it out. Thanks Again!

hey guys with the 52 inch shafs. does it pull up high anuf when in real shallow water. so it doesnt hit bottom
