Motor Decelerating at higher speed.

I have 2012 cougar w/ 2012 250 Proxs. I went out yesterday, and when I was running about 3/4 speed to Full throtle the motor would declerate for about a second or two then would pick back up for awhile then do it again. After doing it on my second run, I shut down and switched gas tanks and it never done it again. Has any of you guys every had this happen, if so please advise.Thanks

Could be bad gas, havent been able to fish much this year, but keep Seafoam in it. I have Half a tank, should I add more treatment and fill up, or figure a way to drain tank.

EXCELLENT product for eliminating water in gasoline is called Thermo-aid , which is available at NAPA auto parts stores , or ISO-HEET , which is exactly the same product in a different bottle . — 100% isopropyl alcohol is all it is . — Hoss

Adding more ethanol or alcohol by way of additives doesnt get rid of water it just absorbs it in solution creating even more potential for phase separation. Ultimately not good. If gas is suspect, drain by removing sending unit and siphon out… Oh yeah no cigars.

I would go back and see if it will do it again. If you only swapped tanks once, I would check the other tank once more. If the tank selector was out of the detent even a little, it may have caused it to starve for fuel momentarily. I believe if it was water in the fuel, the engine would have popped and missed more than just decelerating. Just my thoughts.

I believe what Cajunhunter67 said could very well be the culprit. I had the same thing happen on one of my previous boats with a 225 EFI. It completely killed power to the motor. I had to idle back to the ramp, pumping the bulb, because it couldnt build a prime. I went home thinking I lost a fuel pump, but my dad played with the tank selector, we heard a vent sound, and the problem never arose again.

Thanks for all the advise guys, I will go and try the tank again before I take further actions with it.
