So my newest cat has this trolling motor on it, a 105 lb one. Previous 2 cats that I had both had motor guides on them, I believe tour editions. I am pretty disappointed to say the least about this one so far, it has issues. Vibration being one of them. Yesterday was the first time I used it and I am in need of some feedback. I had installed the TH marine prop nut, along with the equalizer on it thinking that since I would be keeping this one for a while why not. When you step on the pedal on the trolling motor its like its thinking oh what am I supposed to work now and begins to move after about a few second lag. Other two did not do that, nor was the vibration there. Now I know this does not have spot lock, or a power lift but I would think that it would be fairly vibration free and work when you step on the pedal. Any thoughts on it are appreciated.

Have you tried it without the TH Marine Nut?

Basscat, that is the next step, taking both the nut and the equalizer rams off it and seeing what happens then. If it doesnt settle down I will give bull shoals boat dock a call, and then go from there.

We would visit with MotorGuide on the matter. They have a customer service team that will be glad to assist. We don’t think the arms are any impact, though propeller and nut are definitely a concern. BCB

Also might help to change the prop. I had one of the X5s, the vibration was so bad you could feel it in the pedal. Changed the prop and it went away.

Dont know which prop youre using, but on both my original 82# Tour Edition and on my current 80# X5, the 2 blade Safari gave me a lot more vibration than the 3 blade Machete. I do not use an aftermarket prop nut or assist arms.Do not notice the lag in my X5 you mention.

P3Cat on both Tour Editions that I had they both had the 3 blade Machete props on them. The last one had the nut on it, and it was actually pretty quiet, much more so than the 80 lb one. I spoke with Motorguide today and they told me to check the shaft to make sure it was not bent, and then buy a different prop (try the 3 blade on it) and see if that takes away the vibration. They told me that the assists and the nut would not have any effect on the vibration, so I bought another prop and once I get it back out I will see what happens. I am going to see if there is lag in it again as well, and if it persists then another phone call will be in order.

I have the Motorguide aluminum prop with TH nut, very smooth on my X5

Definitely try the 3 blade before making any other changes, bet it helps with the vibration. Dont know why they ship the X5 with a Safari prop, in my experience the Machete props have always performed better.Interesting Motorguide said to check for a bent shaft. How does one bend a composite shaft?
